Berlin's Gay, Lesbian, and Queer Scene Small-Group Walking Tour

A queer king, a gay mayor, Marlene Dietrich in Blue Angel, David Bowie in the ‘70s, Audre Lorde in the ‘80s: Berlin has long been a magnet for LGBTIQ icons and allies. From the wild days of the 1920s and the dark days of persecution under the Nazis through to the Cold War. Hear about the club scene of the 90s, the unlikely queer icon Frederick the Great, and the life of the openly gay Nazi, Ernst Röhm. Explore world-famous, Schöneberg, once the central district of the sapphic Berlin, home of philosopher and war journalist Erika Mann, chronicled by painter Otto Dix and writer Christopher Isherwood. Discuss the queer community of Berlin and all the communities it intersects with by visiting Kreuzberg, where as far back as the 1600's, many waves of LGBTIQ and immigrant diasporas have come to determine "nobody flees without a reason". On this tour we accept anyone that considers themselves LGBTIQ, an ally, or who’s just plain interested. Everyone is welcome!

Berlin-The Sirens: Boat tour on the Spree with three drag queens

After the great success of the "Spree cruise with drag queen(s)" last year, we are adding not one, not two, but six in 2024: "The Sirens" will cruise up and down the Spree six times, with champagne to start with and a very enchanting finish. "The Sirens" are Audrey Naline, Alice Dee and Jade Pearl Baker, and what it means when these three drag queens make the Spree unsafe is actually unpredictable in the best sense of the word. We'll try it anyway: 6 Spree cruises with 3 drag queens for 2.5 hours on the water = endless fun. Together they sing, dance, explain the cityscape, blow-dry and pamper the audience to happiness, bring old sea dogs back to their mid-20s and possibly even end the patriarchy (decision: spontaneous).

Queer Berlin Small Group Tour - Birthplace of LGTBQ Movements

Berlin may rightly be called the birthplace of today’s LGBTQ+ movements. Karl Heinrich Ulrichs, pioneer of the modern Gay Rights Movement, distributed his essays on male-male love as early as 1862. He cleared the path for the world’s first gay magazine, Der Eigene (The Self-Owning), which came out of Berlin in 1897. No wonder that, by the 1920s, a liberal attitude made interwar Weimar Berlin an international magnet for creative individuals, including W.H. Auden and Christopher Isherwood, who authored the novel, Goodbye to Berlin (on which the musical Cabaret is based). In such an dynamic atmosphere, the Institute for Sexual Science was founded by Magnus Hirschfeld, who initiated the first campaign to abolish the legal persecution of homosexuals. This 3-house tour takes you to sites that illuminate Berlin’s many queer trailblazers, while you stroll through Schöneberg, discovering the world’s first gay ghetto.
