Extremely busy, but despite crowds had a great time. Super friendly and helpful staff. MARCY from wheelchair rental, young gentleman in safari pizza( named started with a j) both super friendly and helpful, and lights were beautiful, however a bit pricey. $31 for a pizza with cheese.

I traveled to Tampa from NY for a short getaway with The Zoo as one of the primary destinations for me and my sisters. I purchased tickets ahead and purchased White Rhino Encounter tickets that I had to choose a specific date for. Due to limited time, Friday or Saturday were the only options and I chose Friday. On Thursday I received a telephone call from Shelley at the zoo informing me that the visit for Friday had to be cancelled due to unforseen issues at the exhibit and to call her back to make other arrangements. We played phone tag and finally spoke to each other. She was really wonderful and I explained that we only had Saturday as another option and how much we were looking forward to it (one sister is obsessed with all things rhino) and she asked me to wait for a bit as it was not looking too good as an option and discussed other Encounters. She came back on the phone and announced that she scheduled us for Saturday at the White rhino encounter and sent a confirming email. This was just above and beyond my expectations and she was so helpful and kind and funny, making a stressful situation a happy one. Our visit was perfect! There is no explanation for the joy of seeing a mother and baby rhino together and being able to touch the mother rhino, all while the keepers talked about rhinos, answered questions and kept us entertained. Other favorites included the Orangutans and the entire Primate exhibit. It was easy to spend a lot of time there just watching. The zoo layout is easy to manage, the exhibits are well done and the cafe food was pretty good. Overall this was a really wonderful and magical visit. I wish the gift shop was better and as a tip, if you see something out along the way that you like, buy it because it may not be in the main shop at the entrance (one very disappointed person in our group that did not get a hat she liked!) I understand why this Zoo has had four seasons of "Secrets of the Zoo: Tampa".

It's a nice zoo. We easily spent 3 hours there checking out all the animals.

Saw about 7 elephants, only 1 tiger and 1 giraffe. They have tons of Manatees with a nice exhibit to see them really well.

Lots of monkeys and coyotes. The flying macaws show, although short, was cool. It's clean and everyone is polite and helpful.

Free parking, probably built into the cost of the ticket. Not impressed by the food choices here. Would opt for some good Cuban or Chinese food in the area.

There are lots of positive aspects about this AZA accredited zoo so I’ll start there.
Like AZA zoos across America it’s focused on conservation and rescue of endangered animals.
Their manatee area was excellent and we had a zoo educator telling folks about their program to care and release these beautiful mammals.
On the flip side, they have signage explaining that plastic bottles that are single use are bad for the environment, yet they sell only plastic bottles and cups!! Other zoos have done away with plastic completely and sell refillable bottles or paper box water.

And many animals are in habitats that seemed too small and lacking in enrichment. For example, sun bears are known for their ability to climb trees (their claws and legs are shaped to allow them to shimmy up trees, yet their habitat lacks trees to climb. The wolves and several other animals that need to run and roam are in smaller areas of the zoo.
The zoo has more of a theme park feel with water rides and kids play areas.

ZooTampa is a nice small/medium sized zoo. You can easily see everything in a couple of hours. It is a very walkable zoo - no big hills to trudge up/down. If you live in the area, it probably makes sense to buy an annual pass, as single-day tickets are are on the steep side ($45 for 12+). Parking is free.

My wife and have been to amazing zoos all over the USA. I have to say ZooTampa is one of the lamest zoos we’ve ever been too. It was on the expensive side as well $47.95. We literally were there for about an hour. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

More expensive than the NYC Bronx Zoo. I understand that caring for all the animals, the exhibits, grounds etc must be expensive, but from admission to a small local zoo actually be higher than admission to the world famous Bronx Zoo is unacceptable.
Walking slow, stopping often we visited many, many exhibits and it took slightly over four hours to see everything. Admission $45.95 each for adults and $35.95 each for the kids . The did have a special saying our admission tickets were good for a entire month, but why come back we saw everything?
Given all that,it’s a nice small zoo, the exhibits are well done, the animals were active and healthy looking, the staff knowledgeable and polite.
We didn’t buy any food or drinks so no comment on those offerings.
