Be prepared to walk down hundreds of steps (at the end you do not have to walk back up though, there is a lift). The distance we covered was a little under 3 miles. The history of the salt mine through the centuries is very interesting and the sculptures and reliefs carved in salt were stunning, especially the underground cathedral whose art was sculpted by miners with no art training. What really made the day though, was our that our driver Martin, not only provided commentary on the city and route while taking us to the tour, but also gave us a city tour after the salt mine tour, showing us all the major sights so that we had a good overview of Krakow to begin our trip. He was charming, knowledgeable and cheerful and his willingness to drive us around and also send links with many recommendations was definitely above and beyond what we were expecting. He and his brother started the company that offers this and other tours of Krakow and we highly recommend him.

Excellent tour with a guide whose enunciation and command of English were impeccable. The sculptures were amazing. And the mine’s history was fascinating too.

The Salt Mine tour guide was humorous and educational regarding the history. I would recommend a visit to the Salt Mines if you are staying in Krakow.

Brilliant place. Definitely need to be good on your legs as there are hundreds of steps to go down (lift back up thank goodness!)
They closed the nearest lift (Miners Lift) just as we got to it so we had to walk a further 20-30 minutes to reach the other lifts (they didn't explain how far it was!) then we came out of the mine quite a way from the car park with no real directions of how to get back to the car park.

We went on this pre booked trip. Picked up at our hotel at 10am. The mini bus was for 6 of us. Plus our driver Marcin
We travelled around 30 mins To the mine. All well organised.
Marcin took us around the sites after too. Which was good. A extra bonus.
The mine itself is amazing. But lots and lots and walking and step. My legs were hurting for days haha.

Really interesting, impressive, and well organised. Loads of history and very close to Krakow. Even the chandeliers are made of salt as are the floor tiles.

We had an excellent time.
Firstly the driver was really friendly and helpful all the way through the trip. He took the time to point out all the interesting places we passed on the way out and back, so much so that the other people in our group said that they got a better tour than the random golf buggy trip they had taken the day before and he took time on the way back to go into more detail. Thanks Jerry, your efforts were greatly appreciated.
The actual mine visit was really interesting, the caverns, churches, carvings, and lakes are something else. Just a word of warning, there is a lot of walking at a reasonable pace, and there are a LOT of stairs. There are even about half a dozen stairs up!
I’m not claustrophobic so I don’t know how relevant my view is but mostly there is plenty of space around and above apart from the trip back up in the cage, but it is only 42 seconds.

Great communication the day before on pick up time and up to date information.
Comfortable ride and the salt mine itself is great.
It’s a bit daunting when they say 2.5 hours in the mine but the tour moves very well and is very interesting. Lots of steps to get down, so be prepared!
Martin, our driver, was so knowledgable and a great guide on the way to and from the mine. A big shoutout to Martin!
