Offers a unique experience with nature, rappelling through waterfalls as you traverse a canyon creek. Along the way you will come across water springs, jump into naturally formed water pools, and zip line past the forest trees. Maquique offers a total of 5 rappels, 3 of which descend through waterfalls, and one zip line as you trek through the canyon’s creek, cacao. At the end of the tour we will hike through the rainforest for about 13-16 minutes.

Maquique did an absolutely amazing job making the canyoning and whitewater rafting tour safe, interesting, thrilling, and entertaining. All of the staff were some of the friendliest I’ve come across in Costa Rica. They were happy doing what they do, and that made the experience infinitely more enjoyable.
Pictures were taken during both canyoning and rafting, and were sent to us free of charge. This was really appreciated, as most tours make you pay extra. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this tour and Maquique as a whole. I would gladly take the tour again whenever I come back to La Fortuna.

Canyoning course is amazing - through a beautiful jungle valley with some really amazing waterfalls to rappel down. Great guides who were very safely conscious - lots of checking of harnesses, safety lines and so on as you go round the course. Were great with everyone (our kids 8 and 10 loved it). Rappel drop into water about half way through is fun, as is the last 60 metre waterfall.
We did the combined tour, so after end of canyoning some pineapple then a bus ride to the white water rafting on the Rio Balsa. Again great, and very safety conscious guides. Nice stop for fruit down the river (and can of beer at the end).
Free photos / videos as well which is a nice bonus

Hands down was such a good experience! We did the canyoning and rafting combo! For the canyoning we had Rondito and Jairo! They were so personable and fun to hang out with!! We got snacks and lunch and even had pictures being take on us!! Then we went rafting with Mario, Gustavo and Francisco! Super Mario was a fantastic raft guide! They helped answer all of our questions and taught us so much! I highly recommend this company!!

This was among the best adventures I've ever been on, anywhere in the world. The guides were awesome, the natural beauty of the area was like nothing I've ever seen before. The repelling part was my favorite, so exhilarating!

My wife and I were super impressed with all of the staff of Maquique Adventures. They were all super friendly and took everyone's safety extremely serious. We felt comfortable and at ease the entire time. We'd originally signed up for the combo white water rafting and canyoning but after a long day of travel the day before decided to split it into two days, which they easily changed for us. We went water water rafting the first day and Francisco was our guide and he was one of the best we've had in all of our travels and excursions. We had a blast with him and loved learning more about the wildlife and environment. After rafting, you've given an authentic Costa Rican lunch where you can choose either chicken or beef and both come with rice, beans, and fried plantain. The next day we did the canyoning and found that to be even more fun. It's a lot of hiking on some challenging trails so be prepared. I was grateful that my wife had purchased both of us Merrill water/hiking shoes and would definitely not wear tennis shoes and socks. We felt very safe on this, other than you have to be careful. You get the same lunch as for water water rafting. I recommend doing both of these adventures but if you only have time for one, I'd pick canyoning.

My husband & I did the canyoning and whitewater rafting combo. It was the highlight of our trip. Both were amazing! Canyoning offered multiple waterfall repels and a couple zip lines. The most challenging part was the limited hiking between repels and up at the end. The water was much warmer than expected and it felt totally safe. Rafting was quite a rush. We had never rafted before but the instructions were easy. It was so fun. Again the water was warmer than I expected. The rapids were slightly challenging but never felt like more than we could handle. The guides were amazing! In the lazy part of the river we even saw a sloth. And the safety staff/guides shoot video/photos the entire time and give you the footage for FREE. They capture all of the memories to share with family or friends. Highly recommend!

Amazing!! The property where we did the canyoning is spectacular. The waterfalls are breathtaking. I could spend a day just hiking there. We are a family of four with kids aged 9 and 13 and everyone had a blast. The guides are fantastic. So careful about safety but also fun and knowledgeable about the ecology of Costa Rica. Really glad we found this tour company.

This was by far the best tour of the trip! We spent the morning canyoning with a small group. The knowledgeable, attentive staff ensured we could all safely enjoy the adventure of waterfall rappelling, ziplining, and hiking along (and through) the river. The trails are beautiful and very well maintained. After canyoning, we headed to the rafting site. The Balsa river’s non-stop rapids were exhilarating, and Mario made sure we knew how to work as a team so we could make the most of our afternoon on the river. I can’t say enough about the Maquique staff. All were friendly and helpful, and they really seemed to enjoy their work and to respect and care for the environment.
