So welcoming to our group. Wonderful views across the village. I love the New Zealand made souvenirs in the gift shop. Our guide Wai is a beautiful person, every one of our group commented about her spiritual connection to the village and the history, full of knowledge to share, she made us feel welcome in her home.

My Auntie from the USA wanted to learn about Māori culture and chose this tour from the web site. It was well organised, good value, a nice small group. Our guide Daniel was both personable, professional, fun, engaging, and drop dead handsome. You can tell he’s been giving this tour for a while, but there was nothing stale or by rote about his presentation. It added depth that his ancestors are from the village, and his opening tribute to guides of the past was perfect.

Only two things seemed odd to me about the village. Daniel was talking up the sustainability of the village given the reduced need for electricity, given the thermal heat, however, the raised garden beds had little in them and most of the buildings had a vacant feel about them. I may have missed something, but it seems that the possibility of a résiliant life is likely there but is not the current reality.

Also I found it surprising that many of the buildings seem under maintained. I would have thought that preserving the village structures would have been a high priority. I should have asked Daniel about that but the question did not occur to me until the tour was over.

As tour Operators of Scott Tours, we love taking our visitors to Whakarewarewa. The living village atmosphere is more than just a tourist attraction. The 'whanau' family feeling is shared by everyone as you tour the village. A real insight into village life, it's history and their people. The Village Tour, Cultural Performance and the traditional Hangi lunch is an incredible experience. Thank you to everyone for the warm welcomes that you always give to us - Scott Tours - every Cruise Ship season.

Lovely tour. Learned a lot from our guide Manawa! There were also a couple of local cats who acted as our personal escort. ^^

It's a lovely little walk. The guide (in English) explained everything to us, with interactions to teach us words in Maori. Maori culture is so dense, it is a total immersion in a paradisiacal landscape

We started with the cultural performance, which had great energy and audience involvement. Our tour guide grew up in the village and was able to offer a lot of insights on their culture and history. We enjoyed learning about the hot springs and it's various uses (including some fresh boiled corn). We also had lucky timing to catch their geysers going off. Recommended for anyone staying in Rotorua that want to know more about the springs or the Maori people. We were able to walk around a bit afterward to find a mudpool.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide was knowledgeable, amusing and genuine. Very interesting to learn the inventive life style of the Maori people and how they make use of the hot springs for cooking and bathing.

We had an incredible day at Whakarewarewa. We went as a family of 4 and chose the Combo option, which included the Village tour, Cultural performance and self-guided walk of the geothermal pools.
Our guide, Mariama, was exceptional. Her stories of growing up in the village was incredibly interesting and we felt really honoured to spend the time with her. It was also wonderful to see a haka live during the Cultural performance. Seeing the geothermal pools and an erupting geyser was also unforgettable.
Highly recommend this full experience during a visit to Rotorua.
