This is a must-see! The place where the Jews were once confined and which has now become the heart of the Jewish community in Rome. Grab the chance to visit the Jewish sites with a local official tour guide from the Jewish community of Rome, and do not be afraid to get in contact if you want to take the tour in the afternoon.

Everything is slow and relaxed, and a stark contrast to the hectic lifestyle of the rest of the city. The lovely Rome Synagogue and Jewish Museum are also located here and constitute a fundamental chapter of Jewish history. On Shabbath we can give you the chance to have a nice guided stroll in the Jewish quarter as well, without visiting the museum and synagogue, so no entrance tickets to be paid, no hearing devices in this case. Sara was a wonderful guide. She grew up in and lives in the community and is very knowledgeable about its history. She's also very personable, and her English is great. Our only disappointment was the last-minute rescheduling of our tour from a 9 a.m. start to an 11:30 start. We were lucky our schedule could accommodate the change.

Sara is an amazing tour guide. This was by far the best tour I have ever been on. She was patient and thorough, and being part of the Roman Jewish community herself, she was able to give me in depth knowledge about Roman Jewish history. I’m so glad I went on this tour and it was truly an amazing experience to learn from Sara about her community.

Sara was a phenomenal guide. She brought the history of the Jewish ghetto to life in a personal way combining history and stories of her own family. This is a must do tour when in Rome!

This was, quite simply, the best tour I have ever been on. Not only was our tour guide, Sara Terracina, knowledgeable and informative, but she also caused us to be emotionally connected with the tour sites. I have never experienced such a human connection to a tour before.
The Grand Synagogue is absolutely beautiful. The story of the Jews in Rome dates back over 2,000 years, but it is as fresh as today’s news when Sara tells it. It’s a big story (the Coliseum was build from the money taken from the destruction of the 2nd Temple), a small story (candle wax in the door locks), and everything in between. Sara made each statement easily comprehensible, and yet no detail was too small.
I thought we were just going to see the synagogue and walk the Ghetto. Instead, I had a life experience.
A most definite 5 star, Excellent tour!!
