First time in New Zealand & we wanted to see something unique. We certainly did! The glowworms can only be seen in 3 locations around the world. Our guide (I can not remember his name but he joked that he looked like Danny DeVito!) was absolutely fabulous & very informative of the area. The geothermal springs were incredible. Even got to see one erupt! Again, Mimi (I think that was her name.😬 She joked that she was the guide that talked the most!) was so amazing when talking about her home. I loved her final blessing for our group!
Then there was John from Cheeky Kiwi tours! He made us laugh, shared interesting facts about New Zealand & facts of our own countries! He went the extra mile by making a group WhatsApp to share his photo & links from our excursion. Even shared his Spotify playlist! Overall a great guide!! Would highly recommend this trip!

We recently visited the Waitomo caves and Te Puia geothermal area. Our tour guide, Huzefa, provided a generally positive experience. However, it would have been beneficial if he had given us a specific time to return to the van instead of just suggesting to come back in 15 minutes or so. Despite this, he was knowledgeable and his driving was reliable. And we met two beautiful ostriches on the way.
As for the Waitomo caves, our experience was somewhat underwhelming. The boat ride inside the cave lasted barely 20 minutes, and it felt like we were just circling around the same area. We learned that longer cave rides are available in other regions, and we think those might offer a more satisfying experience.

The caves and Te Puia were excellent and well worth visiting. But we thought was a very long journey (more than 13 hours) and we did not like the location chosen for lunch (basically a food truck with limited options). We also found some aspects of the tour itself a bit unusual

Our tour guide John was amazing and we had a memorable day trip. He picked me up right on time, provided us with some water & snacks in the car, drove safely and explained all sights and cities as we drove by them. The tour was very clear and he always communicated how long we would drive to the next place and how long we would have there (did not feel rushed at all). We stopped along the way for some pics and on our way back John had researched facts about everyone’s country and we went through them together. The best day trip I’ve ever been on and totally worth the money!

I had a great time out on this tour (Waitomo Caves and Rotorua with Te Puia) and meeting new people in the group. The day is very well organised with the schedule which makes it easy when visiting a new country.
Our guide was Malcom who was very warm, friendly and easy to have a conversation with. He explained lots of things along the way and has extensive knowledge and experience in the tour. He also gave us good timeframes and details of the schedule including the meeting point which made the day less stress-free.
Thank you so much Malcolm for hosting a great experience and day.

My friends and I did the "Waitomo Caves & Rotorua Small Group Tour including Te Puia" with Cheeky Kiwi Travel a few weeks ago, and were happy with our experience.
From the moment we stepped onto the tour bus and met our fellow passengers, we knew we were in for a great time. Our guide, John, made the journey enjoyable with his knowledge, humor, and enthusiasm for the region.
His mix of trivia and interesting factoids kept us engaged and entertained throughout the trip. And sorry John -- I guess the chili candy is an acquired taste, but hope you enjoyed the mac nuts!
We also appreciated John's recommendations for restaurants in Auckland (dinner at Dr Rudi's was great). And let's not forget about the Hokey-Pokey! We finally tried this iconic treat and even took some Hokey-Pokey chocolate by Whitakers home with us :)
Overall, our experience left us with fond memories, new knowledge, and a deeper appreciation for the beauty and culture of New Zealand. Thank you, John & Cheeky Kiwi Travel, for a great tour - we'll definitely recommend you to others.

My husband and I really enjoyed our tour of Waitoma Caves and the Pohuto geyser in Rotorua. The caves are beautiful. However, the big attraction in the caves are the glow worms that illuminate like little stars. 🐛
We then took a tour of the Pohuto geyser, which was a natural amazement.
Our tour guide Greg was excellent. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. In between major tour attractions, Greg stopped at several beautiful locations to allow us to capture photos.
I highly recommend this awesome tour.

Our driver, Josefe, was on time, knowledgeable, friendly and fun. We were a little off season so had space in the bus. He was a great driver and calm when other drivers around him weren’t so calm or thoughtful. The glow worm caves are surprisingly fun- avatar-ish on a small scale. Te puau was great! The geiser goes for a solid 10 minutes so you most likely will see it. Don’t expect much from Rotorua- it’s a drive by. The countryside is beautiful and easy to sit back and relax and just watch it go by. Also… it is a long day but the restroom breaks are well planned.
