1. Canal Grande
“The most beautiful road in the world”, this is how the Canal Grande is known as. If you look around, what you will see is almost the same view that a 18th-century nobleman would have seen, and before him a Renaissance courtesan, and even before that, a merchant who lived in the Middle Ages.
2. Peggy Guggenheim Collection
Peggy Guggenheim Collection is one of the most important art collections in the world. Peggy Guggenheim, from New York, arrived in Venice in 1949 and began to satisfy her art addiction by buying this wonderful building where she put on display invaluable artworks for the whole world to see. The beautiful terrace you see is where Guggenheim sun-bathed regularly enjoying the view over the Canal Grande
3. Palazzo Gritti Badoer
The Gritti Palace got its name from the Gritti family, an old Venetian family, the most important member of which was Andrea Gritti,, the Doge of Venice in the Renaissance. Andrea Gritti led the Venetian armies against the League of Cambrai, consisting in France, Spain and the Holy Roman Empire, which wanted to stop Venice’s expansionist ambitions in France.
4. Teatro La Fenice
Once one of 7 major theatres in the city, today the Fenice is Venice’s one and only opera house. It is surely a jewel among European theatres, and began to shine from the beginning, as the best composers of the age wrote and performed their operas here, among which Bellini, Donizetti and Rossini. But it was Giuseppe Verdi who is most attached to the Fenice and to Venetian memory.
5. Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute
Here, as you come into the Grand Canal you are opened to the church of the Madonna della Salute. The first thing that strikes a viewer is how imposing the church is, strategically placed at the entrance of the Grand Canal looking out onto the rest of the city in every direction, thanks to its circular shape. Today, ever 21 November the city celebrates the Madonna della Salute in memory of the end of the plague

The feeling is that the gondola sailing is short for the price of the ride. In the description explained that gondola history would be explained, but it wasn't.

Very well organised experience of a gondola ride. While a tour guide walked us to the gondola she briefly told us about history of Venice and St Marco's plaza.

Viewing Venice through the perspective of a gondola was something that we knew we had to do while in Venice, because where else would you get such an an experience?

So, we decided, on the day of our anniversary, we would get a gondola and cruise along the canal. However, since I like to book things in advance, I decided to do so for this experience, because at least then I knew what I would be paying. And thankfully, I did.

Looking around, prices were quite high, until we found this experience. And not only did we get to ride on a gondola, we got a brief tour of Venice and the history of gondolas explained to us as well. For the two of us, we paid around £60, which, given some of the prices on the day, was very affordable and surprisingly cheap.

When we got there, we were separated into different groups based on our languages (we were in the English and French group) and we were off, learning about the history of Venice. It was compelling to learn about something not reading it off of the internet or out of a book. And the tour guide was so nice and friendly, it felt as if we were just having a conversation.

By the time we got to riding the gondola, we were put with another family, which sounds awkward, but due to language barriers and just general English mentality, it wasn't too bad as we kept to ourselves. We did however find ourselves in a bit of a traffic jam, as boats along the canal became backed up by a large boat not moving. However, this was obviously not the fault of the tour guide and instead has become a funny story for us to tell.

I highly recommend this tour, if only for the price alone. On the day, we were passing by places that offered just a boat ride, and it was almost double the price here, even though this service provided a historical tour as well.

The whole trip is a scam as they charge you exorbitantly and make you share the gondola with random people.. To accomodate 4 people on one gondola they add two small side benches which are uncomfortable to sit on. Would not recommend this at all!

I rode the high speed train from Rome for this excursion, a highlight of my trip. I reached out to the tour operator several times requesting a courtesy as the journey into Venice required multiple steps and there were hundreds of tourist.
The company kept emailing my reservation confirmation. I ended up paying for another gondola ride with two couples that I met there.

Ride was half the time advertised (actually only 19 minutes long). Driver (gondola steering man) seemed to care less if we were there or not. On the phone and cracking his empty plastic water bottle Took us down a dark alleyway as our tour. Had to walk a long distance just to get on the gondola. DEFINITELY would recommend taking a Venice water bus that cost 1/10 the price instead. It was better in every way except there was more people on the bus. Always wanted to take a gondola ride but will tell all NOT to do this if they ask. Highly disappointing. NOT the fault of Viator. Just taking advantage of tourist demand.
