The Tully River hosted the International Rafting Federation’s 2019 World Rafting Championships. This world class river provides a pinnacle rafting experience, with over 40 rapids ripping down through the stunning rainforest gorge surrounds. Classified as a Grade 4/5 river, the Tully provides one hell of a wild ride which ticks all the boxes for those seeking the ultimate Australian rafting adventure!
We have two Tully River itineraries, check them out below, which are exactly the same except for departure times. The Tully River is a Hydro River and we’re informed on water release, which determines when we run.

Amazing day out on the river with our guide Tom and our 4 river raft buddies. An experience well worth taking. All the team were very friendly, it like its and experience for them instead of a job.

Great day out!! Fantastic crew with great vibes and banter. Our particular guide had a great sense of humour and with learning that we were keen for some adrenalin navigated us through some of the more challenging parts on the rapids.
I bought this as a birthday gift for my partner - he loved it!!

Had a great day, Driver of the bus Christian was hilarious annd professional and Tom L our boat leader was so much fun, very knowledgeable about the river and always made us feel safe. He was truly amazing.
The Indian ladies we were with were so much fun and also made our day special. Just loved it all. It’s a must do. It is a long day but worth it.

The experience was extremely good. All the staff are professional and cheerful, making the trip so joyful. We especially appreciate our coach, Paul for his hard work and clear instructions that have ensured the whole trip was safe and enjoyable.

Jonny our instructor was brilliant, made the experience extra fun. You travel down the river in the middle of rainforest with beautiful views. Plenty of spots for a swim. Food was good. Great day!

Rafting down the Tully River was an absolute thrill! The guide's expertise and charismatic approach made the experience both exhilarating and incredibly fun. Navigating the rapids felt safe yet adventurous under their professional guidance. The entire trip was peppered with laughter, thanks to the guide's entertaining stories and enthusiastic engagement with everyone. It was a perfect blend of natural beauty, excitement, and humor. This rafting trip not only sparked my adrenaline but also left me with unforgettable memories. Truly a top-notch experience!

We did our trip yesterday 07.05.24 and I travelled with 2 female friends.
Right from the start Raging Thunder were in contact to ensure we had signed pre-adventure waivers and knew the meet/greet/pick up points. Bus pick up was bang on time, so please be prompt.
On the bus Johnny was infectiously friendly and eager and generated a great team atmosphere. Lots of safety information and general advice/info on the drive up to the town of Tulley, with opportunities for food and comfort stops.
Johnny is a mine of information on Bananas and plantations (just saying Buddy), so feel free to pick his brains :) I honestly didn't know bananas could be so interesting..!
We were a decent sized group and made good time, so headed up to the launch site early, where we met out boat leaders and got kitted out and into our boat crews. Almost immediately there was a brilliant team effect and the smiles and laughter got bigger and louder.
Fantastic briefing in the boat, with plenty of practice, before you start at the waters edge, but nothing really prepares you for the practice on the water, where you get up close and personal with your crew.
We were a pretty mixed group of 5 and gelled immediately, as did all the boats and the group as a whole. This was because we had all brought a sense of adventure and fun (you'll need it), but mainly because the Raging Thunder Guides and Instructors are totally invested in your safety and enjoyment.
Questions and answers were endless and after the first rapid (and soaking) we were all hooked. Our boat leader Mezza was particularly outstanding. Great, old fashioned irreverent Aussie humour, mixed with absolute safety, reality checks, advice and history of the valley and rainforest.
We had the opportunity to rock jump (another Red Letter Day) and saw amazing waterfalls, scenery and even a shy Python and Lizards.
So, did we end up in the water, absolutely, several of us, one of the boats flipped over; but the laughter got louder and the smiles bigger. Everyone, especially the Instructors and boat leaders, looked out for everyone else and at no time did I feel unsafe or unsure, quite the opposite. This was purely down to Raging Thunder Instructors whose professionalism, knowledge, confidence and experience absolutely shone through.
Rapid after rapid became more challenging, with rest in between, we felt totally confident and eager to achieve more and more.
An opportunity for free swimming had everyone in the water to cool off as it was a blazing hot day.
Food at the pub was fantastic, with huge portions of delicious grub served up alongside photos of our adventure played on the large screen tv - to squeals and screams of laughter from everyone.
So would I recommend this trip and Raging Thunder - absolutely. Raging Thunder and all their Instructors rocked the day for us, particularly Johnny and Mezza - you guys are absolute legends, and you need to know it!
Got home, sore, tired, exhausted and full of amazing memories, fun and laughter and just in case your memory fades Raging Thunder take loads of photos which are available to you at a very reasonable cost. Jordan, our photographer worked his butt off for all of us.
