Eat and shop like a Japanese local and immerse yourself in this food-themed trip inside both of Tokyo’s two famous fish markets, Toyosu and Tsukiji. Quite possibly the best places to get a sense of Japanese culinary culture!

Meet up with your guide at your hotel or Toyosu to view the fish selling and processing from the observation deck. Afterwards, head toTsukiji Market where you will experience the energy and excitement of the local kitchen. As you navigate your way through this labyrinth of all things seafood, learn from your guide about the market’s history and why many of Japan’s top chefs visit daily to pick up the freshest-quality ingredients.

After the tour, you can stay in the market to enjoy the rest of your breakfast or lunch at your leisure.

This is not the tour with the early morning tuna auction. Please see Toyosu Market Morning Tuna Auction and Tsukiji Food Tour with Licensed Guide

Ken is a fantastic guide. Without asking he customized the entire trip. Ken even found a taxi at the end, which got us to a river cruise ahead of our scheduled departure.

We had a great morning with Mio, our expert local guide. She met us promptly at our our hotel and led us to nearby Shinjuku Station where we had the opportunity to experience the busiest train station in the world at rush hour. Quite a memorable experience!

We then took the Tokyo monorail to the wholesale fish market (Toyosu) where Mio told us how the morning Tuna auction was conducted and guided us through the viewing area above the auction floor. We even saw a replica of the largest tuna ever sold at the auction (over 500 pounds).

We then went to the nearby Block 5 fruit and vegetable building. A very interesting place and not to miss if you are already at Toyosu.

We then went to the Tsukiji market where you can find, taste and buy all types of food. It was very busy (unlike the commercial markets), but Mio expertly led us through the crowds and provided us with the opportunity to try many different foods.

Thank you, Mio, for a wonderful time.

We had the tour today with Naoko, a young Japanese Biology major with a passion for English. It was very helpful to have her along for the explanations about the amazing variety of food and kitchen accessories. She also explained how many of the ingredients are used to create the Japanese dishes. Friendly and with an excellent English, she was a great guide.

Great visit with a very informative guide despite Tokyo weather! Visited Tsukiji Food market, and a Temple in the outer market. Then Toyosu fish market where we had a delicious lunch.

We had a wonderful guide Koji. He sent messages before the trip. He picked us up at the hotel. He explained everything and even helped us to get our IC cards recharged. He is knowledgeable, kind and very thorough. I will recommend him.

Lily was a fabulous guide. We were so daunted by the train system. Lily helped us with the Suica card and it was plain sailing from there. The food was amazing. Lily had a depth of knowledge that made the market interesting. Take cash - a lot of it. Especially if waghu is your thing.

I do not recommend this tour at all. The guide seemed to be in a rush and just walked us from place to place without explaining us anything. We met at our hotel and took the subway to the market. He first walked us to Toyosu and showed us the auction hall rather quickly, he didn’t say much and didn’t give us a lot of time to read the descriptions on the walls. Then he walked us to the intermediary market, but again just walked us there without saying much else, no time to read on our own. Then he took us to the food stalls where we were hoping he would recommend good stalls or at least tell us about the food, but that was not the case. Then we took the subway to Tsukiji, where he essentially showed us where the market was and left. We would have been better off wandering around the markets by ourselves, which is what we ended up doing. Understand that his English was very poor so it was hard to communicate with him, but I did expect so much more for the price I paid. Save your money and go on your own terms, you’ll get the same experience and it’ll be less frustrating!

We had the best time on our tour of the Tsukiji market. Our guide, Yamasan, was wonderful! He made our day stress-free, informative and fun. Our family really appreciated the insights and support from Yamasan before our trip, as well as during. Having traveled quite a bit and enjoyed many tours through Viator, we have never had a guide go out of their way to welcome us to the city by leaving materials for us at our hotel in advance to ensure we were able to find our way. Additionally, we will always cherish the origami gift that Yamasan provided. Not doubt we will remember the tour, the food, the experience, but also our guide. Thank you for bringing joy to our trip and making our day at the market a highlight!

We went on extraordinary culinary experiences at Toyosu and Tsukiji Fish market with an excellent private guided tour in April 2024. Our guide , Miya, was very helpful and showed us all the hidden food gems of the fish markets . She had excellent knowledge of area and guide us to where all the best sushi and specialty street foods in the surrounding area of the fish market. I would highly recommend this tour for food lovers like us.
