My Mugello truffle hunting experience was nothing short of magical from start to finish. Coming from Florence, Paolo arranged to collect and drop me off the local train station. On the drive, Paolo shared his knowledge of the history of the Mugello valley and pointed out the Cafaggiolo castle and one of the prominent Medici family’s holiday homes.

Before setting off on our truffle hunt, we got to know our group over coffee. We were a group of five and got along brilliantly. As a solo traveller, it was lovely to share the day with them.

Our truffle hunter, Gianni and his dog, Achilles, led us on an exciting hunt, where seven black truffles were unearthed. It was remarkable to watch Gianni and Achilles in action. We got to touch, hold and smell the freshly harvested truffles and even dig some out ourselves. They were taken back, weighed and prepared for our lunch – post pasta-making.

Paola’s lovely daughter, Carmen, welcomed us back to the property with some truffle tapenades. Chef Gabriel demonstrated how to make three types of fresh pasta, which we then made ourselves. He was a patient and encouraging teacher, taking time to answer our questions and ensure we got great results. He then prepared our pasta for lunch along with some incredible meat and vegetable dishes. The produce was so fresh and absolutely delicious. He hand shaved the truffles we had collected onto the pasta dishes and wow, it was sensational!

Paolo also sent personalised messages to each of us, including recipes from the day, a history of Mugello and plenty of photos from the truffle hunt.

If you’re debating whether to book this experience, don’t hesitate. The Mugello team are highly professional, passionate and personable. They went above and beyond to ensure my experience was unforgettable and the highlight of my five weeks in Italy. Thank you so much Paolo and team!

We had the Truffle Hunt tour at Agriturismo Corzano near Barberino di Mugello and visited two Unesco world heritage sites once owned by the Medici family. Truffle tour was exciting because we saw various types of plants and mushroom varieties along the way. Afterwards, our guide Paolo took us on a scenic route to see these historical buildings which are currently serving as residences for two different families. Namely, Trabbio Castle was built early in the 15th century, and Cafaggiolo Castle was built in the mid-15th century.

Paolo was very responsive, gave all the details in advance and accommodated our needs. The truffle hunting experience is excellent but then the pasta making with Gabrielle and the serving of Carmen where a perfect blend for an entire great experience. Dont have breakfast, Carmen will give you coffee and cookies and dont plan dinner because Gabrielle will make you eat a 5 course menu with truffles! Great adventure! P.S: they also provide boots and rain coat

We had a very pleasant weather after heavy rains and flooding just few days before for the truffle picking walk in Tuscan countryside with Achilles, the truffle dog.

Nice experience as a whole an interesting to see the truffle dog in action. After the walk some local food with freshly shaved truffles to taste.

Truffle hunting with Achille, the truffle dog, and Gianni was fantastic. It was a highlight of our time in Italy. With its olive groves and vineyard, the Florentine farm was the perfect starting point for the truffle hunt. From the woods around the farm, Achille enthusiastically set out to find truffles. He found seven truffles which was very exciting for us. After a nice walk in the woods, we returned to the farmhouse for a delicious gourmet platter tasting. Carmen, our hostess, was so easy to work with throughout. She helped us with arranging transportation from Florence to San Piero where we were picked up by Paolo at the train station. Paolo not only provided transportation to/from the train station, he served as a translator with Gianni and gave us information about the region. Bravo!

The 4 of us enjoyed a lovely day truffle hunting in the woods with Davis, his son and dog Iago. We all learned about the training of dogs and reason for not using pigs. We also learned about the path of the Gods. After, we & other travelers learned the art of making 3 types of pasta then enjoyed the pasta we made for lunch topped with the fresh truffles found during our hike. Host Carmen, Chef, & Paolo are wonderful! They were very patient with us all and answered our many questions. I have to say, Paolo was exceptionally kind, he took the time to share Florence countryside on our way to the truffle farm. After on our way back, Paolo stopped to share a beautiful panoramic view of Florence with us and pointed out the ancient walls of Florence. We took pictures of the beautiful views. We all agreed at the end, what a great way to spend in Florence.

Our group of 6 had a wonderful time on this tour. The location is gorgeous and the hosts Paolo and Carmen (including Gina the dog - a beautiful Lagatto Romangolo) were very gracious. With Gina's nose we found almost 400 g of black truffles with her guide! Then it was off to the kitchen to learn the ways of making 3 different kinds of pasta - we had a great time and learned a lot from Carlo with the pasta making. This was then followed by an exceptional (and very filling) meal for all of us.

I have no hesitation in recommending this tour for anyone visiting the region - it was definitely one of our highlights of our vacation in the region.
