The views at the top are nice, but you will spend hours in line to get there and back. There are three different trams you need to take, each with a long line. It's possible the lines are not as bad when it isn't ski season, or on weekdays. Overall it was a big project to do this and stressful. The lines are disorganized. You will be packed with people in trams. Also if you go on a sunny day, you likely won't have very good views because the light is too bright to really see the mountains.

Absolutely beautiful view of Innsbruck and the alps! It was snowing quite hard, so we the view was a bit obstructed, yet it was truly a beautiful winter wonderland!

I thought the Christmas market would be the highlight of my visit to Innsbruck (it was superior to Munich and Strasberg)but the cable car experience was amazing travelling up above the clouds to the ski slopes. The view was spectacular, there were Alpine Chuffs flicking snow off the roof at visitors which was fun. There were also afew craft stalls and a restaurant up there.
Make 2024 the year you visit the wonderful, friendly Christmas market and mountain in Innsbruck,Austria its fab.

We managed to get a 2 day trip out of a 1 day ticket by accidentally tricking the ticket machines, making the $200 AUD return trip (2 adults, 1 youth, 1 child free) way more inviting.
We purchased our tickets from the Congress entry and went all the way up to the top - had a great lunch, took some photos. There was also tobogganing for those who wanted too but it was too windy for the kids. Amazing views and a great experience for those who haven’t seen snow or been to the alps.
The second day we wanted to go up again but weren’t sure our tickets were valid for more than 1 day. We walked to the first stop enjoying the sunshine, past Congress to Lowenhäus and our tickets allowed us to get on! We enjoyed the views and Christmas Market up top for a second day but only from the Hungerburg stop. We asked about our tickets and discovered the machines are valid at 1 stop only once so as we had got on at Congress the day before, Lowenhäus thought we were first ticket users. Knowing this we then took the walk down the mountain to the Alpenzoo stop to get back on the cable car (as we didn’t stop there the day before). The walk was magical and quite easy to find your way if you follow the Alpenzoo signs (and soon enough the zoo smells ?). Kids loved it and it took up a whole afternoon for us 2 days in a row ?? 2 for 1 - you’re welcome!

Viator sold the tickets for 3 X the price of what they are sold for. It’s a scam. Do not purchase. Use the Innsbruck travel website. NOT Viator.

Got there there too late to go to the top. Some advice about the latest time to be there in time would have been good by Viator. The part we did see was amazing though.

Quick, effective and inexpensive way to reach the top of Innsbruck and overlook the city. Easy to find the funicular train station in the heart of downtown Innsbruck. Take the modern and safe way to make it up over 15,000 feet to the top of the mountains overlooking the city. Relax at several cafe's and restaurants both half way up and then again at the top. Ride up and then back down at your own pace.

We have never been this high from sea level before, wonderful views and if you are lucky you can listen the local musso’s playing traditional songs, whilst having a drink and food in the last building before the summit, great time after 3 cable cars, just do it
