Definitely not worth the money - spend your money elsewhere. No hot water in the showers and not even a hairdryer in the changing rooms. Way way overpriced for what it is. Steer clear!

Lovely walk around the geothermal walk. Really enjoyed the mud pool and thermal pool.
I must admit it has been extremely hard to get the sulfur smell out after experience. Used advice given to wash swimming costume (cold wash and air dry). Later when I re-washed with other clothes has made all my clothes also smell of sulphur - which is not nice when travelling in a van. Also my jewellery has turned completely black even after 48 hours after bathing, my wedding band which is gold also turned slightly black (even though not worn in the mud bath). So be extremely careful with jewellery and clothes for a couple weeks after this experience!

Amazing time! It was a great experience to go through and learn about traditional maori culture as well as visit the geothermal reservce! Definitely a must-do in Rotorua!
Heads up - it does smell a little like eggs but don't let it deter you!
Such a great tour guide with an amazing sense of humour! Props to you!

Very glad we did the guided tour with the geothermal walk. Our guide Nati was amazing very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure having him show us around and he helped us with our wood carving and showed us what he was working on after our mud bath, sulfur bath, and cold plunge. Felt like this was a great value for everything we got out of it.

My family and I really enjoyed the Hells Gate experience, mud baths and spa were great, the walk around the geothermal area was easy and relaxing as well as informative. I was however very disappointed to see a family ticket would have only cost us $265 buying at Hells Gate reception however we ended up being charged $323 through Tripadvisor. I thought I would be charged in NZ $ living and booking in NZ, it wasn’t clear at the time of booking. I tried to book on the Hells Gate website but it wouldn’t load correctly.

We did the self-guided tour, the mud bath and sulphur pools. You can hire towels and swimsuits at $5 per piece. Lovely staff and very organised. The facility was well kept and clean. The walk was very interesting and easy to follow on the self-guided sheet. Loved all the different geo-thermal activity. The mud-bath was lovely and relaxing. The sulphur pool was again relaxing. We only went into the cold plunge pool up to our knees-we were chicken. It was a great experience and I would recommend it highly.
