1. Palazzo di Diocleziano

2. Vestibulum of Diocletian's Palace
Vestibule or the hall of Diocletian's apartments served as an integral part of the ceremonial access to the Emperor.
3. Cathedral of Saint Domnius
The cathedral in Split is accommodated in the former mausoleum of the emperor Diocletian, a monumental building from the 4th century. Built of massive stone blocks, the 24 m high mausoleum dominates teh central area if the palace.
4. The Peristyle of Diocletian's Palace
A ceremonial entrance court, framed on both sides by monumental arcades and oriented towards the imperial loggia. Admire the stunning colonnaded square, one of the most beautiful ones on the Mediterranean.
5. Green Market
Where do locals buy their fruit and vegetables? The best cheese and prosciutto? It is at this lively market that you experience a true local life.
6. The Golden Gate
Golden Gate, i.e. the northern gate is, the most prominent of all four gates of the palace. A little church of St. Martin was built into the very gate in the 5th century.
7. Grgur Ninski Statue
The statue is the work of one of the most famous Croatian sculptors -Ivan Mestrovic. The bronze statue depicts Grgur Ninski, the bishop from the beginning of the 10th century. Rub its toe for good luck!
8. City Clock
Built into the western gate of the palace the clock is today among the most recognizable city's landmarks.
9. Fruit's Square (Trg Brace Radic)
One of the most picturesque squares just outside the palace of the Roman emperor Diocletian. Learn about Marko Marulić, the father of Croatian literature whose statue is in the middle of the square.
10. Venetian tower
Fruit Square is dominated by the remains of the 15th century Venetian castle
11. Prokurative
Prokurative or as it is officially called, Republic Square resembles the Venice St. Marks Square. The square is located west of the Riva and was named after the arches found on the neo-Renaissance buildings surrounding the square on three sides. Most people to this day know it by that name. The square is only open on the south side, providing a beautiful view of the harbour and the Riva (waterfront).
12. Riva Harbor
Considered the most beautiful promenade in Croatia, it is a meeting point of both locals and our visitors. Here we start and end our tour.

We really enjoyed this private walking tour of Split. Pero was a great guide who was very informative. He tailored the tour a bit after learning a little about us, which we really appreciated. Very informative for myself, my husband and 2 sons in their early 20’s. Highly recommend.

What a great way to learn and find your way around the city. Our local guide Vinka met us at our residence and away we went. Vinka is very knowledgeable and has a lot of local tips. The Palace was very interesting. Highly recommend this tour.

Our group of 5 did tours in Dubrovnik and Split with Jelena. She was extremely responsive. We were on a cruise with limited time and managed to go to the waterfalls in the morning and tour Split and the Palace in the afternoon. Our driver, vehicle, and guide were all fantastic. So glad we found her.

This was a private tour tailor made for us. I pre booked from home and Jelena was extremely helpful preparing the intenary.

My husband and I had the most intelligent and well-paced tour of our trip to Croatia in Split, with Jelena Vrancic as our guide. Her historical knowledge was surpassed only by her enthusiasm for her city, country, and its people. We had a leisurely walk along the waterfront to Diocletian's Palace, where Jelena discussed the marvels of Roman architecture, in particular how the basement structure survived through the centuries until it was recently excavated. It was fascinating. As we walked through the old city, both within and without the Palace walls, we heard Croatian a cappella singers perform, and the joyous singing at a wedding in the Cathedral Square. Jelena took time to discuss both her country's past and the upheavals of the recent Homeland War. She also was a fount of great suggestions for the rest of our time in Split. Best of all, we were not part of a large group wending our way through the city streets, and it was well worth the cost of a private tour since we had limited time in the city. We highly recommend her, both for Split and a broader tour of the region.

Jelena is so much more than a tour guide! She is also a very kind and generous person.

Based on her reviews on Trip Advisor and Viator, we made a reservation with her for this tour. She provided her email address so we could correspond. When we inquired with her about how to make reservations for ferry tickets for us for travel between Split and Hvar and Hvar to Dubrovnik, she offered to purchase the tickets for us. She didn't even want us to send money, rather that we pay her when we met in Split several weeks later!

She also contacted our hotels in Split, Hvar and Dubrovnik to help arrange transport to and from the ferry docks and airports.

Once we met her in Split she gave us a very thorough tour, describing landmarks, historical events and...She also recommended restaurants, showed us to the ATMs with the lowest fees and told us where to shop for unique Croatian souvenirs.

As were were wandering around Split the following day, we ran into Jelena who was giving a tour to another couple and it was like running into an old friend. We also saw her in Hvar!

She is a perfect tour guide and a wonderful person.

My wife and I really enjoyed our tour.

The tour operator was in contact with us early to make sure we had the date, time, and location of the tour down.

We met Vinka at our hotel and saw all the major sites within the city center of Split, from Diocletian’s palace to mid 20th century architectural gems. The tour was about 3 hours long, which was a good amount of time to see everything without feeling overwhelmed or tired.

Our tour guide, Vinka, was highly knowledgeable about the history of each place we saw and super personable. She provided us historical context about each place, was able to answer all our questions, and gave us recommendations for additional sites, restaurants, and experiences in the area.
