The food tour unfortunately lacked a South African element to it. Our guide took us to a lot of Indian places and didn’t really show us the delicacies unique to South Africa. Near the end he took us to some beautiful spots in the city but at the beginning a lot of the food stops were in irrelevant malls. The guide was helpful in answering our questions. But the food portions were much too big.

Gilbert led us on our private tour, tailored to our desires. We hit 5 local food outlets - not fancy; more like street food - which is what we desired. Each stop highlighted a different food culture. The last one (coffee and dessert) was such that we went back the next day. The tour also included some street vendor areas, one that had a multi-cultural food fair in process.

Our guide cancelled on the day of our tour and had a friend substitute. The friend was nice and knowledgeable about Cape Town but took us to food stands in a sketchy neighborhood. Food was sloppy at best and left us both with stomach aches. We quit the tour after 6 tastings.

We had the best time with Gilbert. So many great and different foods we enjoyed and such big portions....it was a feast! Plus loved all is commentary about the city, sights, history and personal stories. I learned so much and had a great time.

Gilbert was such an amazing host! I wish I was more of a picture kind of person. Instead, I got so much content in terms of videos, from our tour. My group LOVED him. They talked history of Cape Town and so much more. The food at each stop was really good. Gilbert even made us some Malva pudding bites that were 10/10! Such an amazing host and guide. Would definitely recommend his services and this activity to anyone visiting Cape Town.

We loved our tour. We enjoy “off the beaten path” experiences, and Gilbert did not disappoint us. If you want to get away from the V & A tourist area to see where the average person eats, this tour takes you there. Gilbert was knowledgeable about not only the food, but the history of Cape Town and the ethnic mix that flavors the food you are tasting. Make sure to come hungry- although this is tasting tour, we thought there was plenty of food.

We really enjoyed this walking food tour! Our guide was AMAZING! I would highly recommend this. Bulelani was nice and very knowledgeable about South African history. We learned so much in a short time. Bring your appetites!

Gilbert was amazing! He took us all over the city providing insight and history along the way. We stopped at restaurants and had SA food as well as Indian food, talked to the spice lady (so cool) and got a goody bag there with a traditional SA recipe, had yummy SA desserts and even a SA cider. Gilbert was so knowledgable and so pleasant to be with. It was a city tour accompanied by great food. It was so much more than I would have ever expected. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
