The one-hour fixed-wing flight from Queenstown to the Tasman Glacier in Aoraki Mount Cook is certainly spectacular, but the highlight of this trip is the glacier Heli Hike. The experienced guides will take you into a deep part of the glacier via a scenic helicopter flight. The helicopter passes over the deep crevasses of the icefalls and waterfalls to land on the Tasman glacier itself. From there you’ll be fitted with crampons for the two hours on the ice, exploring caves and seeing the natural, ever-changing wonder of the glacier in the South Island of New Zealand.

Such a great experience, our guide Scott was very knowledgeable and made sure the whole group got to see some unique sights. Seeing the Glacier up close was definitely a highlight of the trip.

We got lucky to have a beautiful day and were able to hike through ice structures on Tasman Glacier. The helicopter ride from camp to the glacier and the scenic flights from Queenstown town were amazing and an experience in itself!

The photos speak for them selves
Definitely a must do while in the South Island of New Zealand.
A special thanks to plane pilot and helicopter pilot for sharing their knowledge of the landscape along the way.

Right from the very start, the taxi and staff service was perfect. We never had too long to wait, and there was always a staff member accompanying us. The staff also taught us how to attach the crampons to our boots and what to do when a helicopter was near.
The equipment was clearly professionally designed for this sort of activity and all instructions were informative and thorough.
The experience was truly unforgettable as it looked like pure water trapped in time. As well as learning about the history of the glaciers, the natural architecture of the glacier-tunnels was captivating.
Out of all my travels in my life with Viator, this was absolutely the best of the best. I highly recommend other tourists to check out this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to immerse into the greatness of nature.

Never been on a helicopter before but this experience sounded amazing. Well - it was! We got dropped off on Tasman glacier and Andy, our guide, did a nice job explaining the forming and melting of of glaciers. Besides hiking on top of the glacier, we were able to explore a natural ice cave…. That will only be around for about one year. Being inside the glacier was a lifetime memory. Beautiful and amazing all in one.

Andrew flew us to Mount Cook where we did a glacier and ice cave activity. He is an excellent pilot who was kind and friendly. He is also a airplane engineer!
The flight itself was very smooth with few bumps. We saw many breathtaking views of the mountains as Andrew charted a wonderful path over the mountains.
We were fortunate to see a circular double rainbow whilst in the air.
Thank you Andrew for taking care of us. We really appreciate your kindness.
The ice cave exploration has a bit of hiking involved (not a lot) and we were able to walk through 3 ice caves. There's no need to be extremely fit.
Andy and Emma took great care of everyone and made sure we were safe. It was a great experience. Thank you to the team as well as the helicopter pilots who were very skilled.
