WHAT TO EXPECT

1. Kahului
We arrive in Kahului after picking you up from your accommodations/meeting location. Located in the valley between the Kahalawai (the West Maui mountains) and Haleakala, Kahului is the most populated city on Maui and the commercial and financial hub. It is also the starting point for our tour.
2. Paia
Drive through the eclectic town of Paia an old plantation era town

World famous Ho`okipa Beach Park is a breath-taking white sand beach boasts perfect windsurfing conditions and windsurfers from around the globe travel here to challenge themselves against the ever-changing waves. Stop for photos on the overlook.
4. Huelo
The historic area of Huelo as it is adorned with vistas of bamboo, remarkable cliffs, and exceptional ocean views that certainly qualify as breathtaking. We stop to see the "painted forest" of beautiful rainbow eucalyptus trees.

Visiting the small community of Keanae will be like stepping into the past. Located on a peninsula which is an old lava flow, it is graced by Keanae Congregational Church, built in 1860 of lava rocks and coral mortar. Don’t miss an opportunity to feast on the best banana bread in the Hawaiian islands and possibly catch a view of the honu, Hawaiian sea turtles.

Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread Stand Is a must stop destination for hot, fresh baked banana bread that was featured on Gordon Ramsay’s uncharted show “road to Hana” episode.
7. Pua'a Ka'a State Park
An idyllic area with two small scenic waterfalls and pools. Swimming opportunity.
8. Hanawi Falls
Hanawi Falls cascades 200 feet into a freshwater pool next to the Hanawi Falls Bridge completed in 1926.
9. Wai'anapanapa State Park
Experience Honokalani Beach, a gorgeous black sand beach at Waianapanapa State Park. This magnificent beach is set among lava cliffs and the sand is actually small, smooth lava pebbles. A small sea arch, sea caves, and seaside lava tubes are located right on the beach. An ancient Hawaiian footpath leads to the beach area which appears like a vivid dream, with bright green jungle foliage on three sides and cobalt blue water lapping at its feet. Spectacular! Swimming opportunity.
10. Hana Bay
Hana Bay (Uakea), is a beautiful black sand beach, On any given day you’ll likely see local Hana outrigger canoe clubs practicing.
11. Koki Beach
At Koki Beach overlook, you will see a red hill (which is actually an eroding cinder cone) known as Ka Iwi o Pele, meaning “the bones of Pele”. From this vantage point, you can also get an excellent view directly offshore of `Alau Island, a seabird sanctuary with a 150-foot summit, topped by swaying coconut palms from the small red sand beach is a great photo stop.
12. Hana
We will stop at the tropical flowers of Maui to rest, use the bathrooms and a little shopping opportunity before getting back on the road.
13. Wailua Falls
Wailua Falls is an 80-foot cascading waterfall and plunge pool considered the most photographed beautiful waterfalls on Maui,

**CURRENTLY CLOSED BY NATIONAL PARK SERVICE** O`heo Gulch, also incorrectly known as “The Seven Sacred Pools”, is located in the Kipahulu area of Haleakala National Park. In reality, there are more like twenty-four pools. A one mile long loop trail goes down to the pools and ocean, then up and around, back to the parking area. NOTE: The National Park Service has closed access to the Pools indefinitely. Please see the NPS website. Weather, safety, timing and unexpected closure permitting.
15. Charles Lindbergh's Grave
Visit Charles A. Lindbergh’s grave. The famed aviator lived his last days on this lush Hana coast. Today, he lies at rest on the serene grounds of the Palapala Ho’omau Church in lovely Kipahulu. The adjacent limestone coral church was built in 1857. NOTE: This is an actual church which can be unavailable when a service is being conducted or the caretaker is not available. Weather, safety, timing and unexpected closure permitting.
16. Kipahulu
Kipahulu is a photographers paradise of rainforests, waterfalls, pools, mountain valleys and sweeping ocean views. We will make photo opportunities stops.
17. St. Joseph Church
St. Joseph Catholic Church one of Maui’s oldest churches was established in 1862 by the missionary Catholic priests served a thriving community of Native Hawaiians, ranchers, fishermen, and farmers.
18. Kaupo
Driving through the Kaupo district, with its rugged coastline, and unpaved roads you will think you are in the latest Indiana Jones adventure! We will make photo opportunities stops.
19. Kula
Kula district is a quaint, rustic area on the slopes of Haleakala, that stretches across the "up-country", from 500 m to 1,100 m (1,600 ft to 3,600 ft) in elevation of the western-facing slopes of Haleakalā, from Makawao to Ulupalakua. Kula’s most notable landmark, the brilliant white, octagonal Holy Ghost Church. A gift from the king and queen of Portugal to the island’s Portuguese plantation workers in 1894, it has been recently restored. Kula also offers the best views in Upcountry Maui, with sweeping views of Maui and the Pacific Ocean. This will be a bathroom stop and to take in the views.

Located on the rural northwest slope of Haleakala on Maui, the community is known for being the hub of the "Upcountry Maui", a part of the island dominated by mostly agriculture and ranch land. Makawao is an old, Paniolo town. A Paniolo is a Hawaiian Cowboy.
21. Kahului
Finally we have come full circle around Haleakala on our Road to Hana Tour. After an epic day, we now we return you to your hotel/condo or meeting location.
22. Maui

• Vehicles used on the road to Hana are not wheelchair accessible. Participants must be ambulatory. No walkers, wheelchairs and/or scooters, of any kind, are permitted.
• We require any children under the age of 6 years old (5 and under) be in a size-appropriate safety seat; ie, a car seat or booster seat. NOTE: not provided, PASSENGERS TO PROVIDE
• Anyone with heart, back problems, or other serious medical conditions cannot participate in the tour. Oxygen tanks, or generators are not permitted.
• Special needs requests (except lunch) must be called in to the local supplier at least 1 week prior to tour date. All special needs requests are handled and accommodated on a situational basis.
• We provide a continental breakfast (locally baked pastries in tropical flavors and fresh grown Maui fruits). There are no hot beverages served but you are welcome to bring your own in a to-go cup. Special lunch requests (including vegetarian requests) require a minimum of 48 hours notice.
• Tour schedule/stops are subject to change due to weather, traffic, park closures, road closures, timing and or other various unforeseen circumstances.
• No luggage of large bags. All bags must fit under seat.
• Absolutely no alcohol or drugs onboard. No drinking alcohol or doing drugs while on tour.
• Maximum weight for passenger is 325 lbs. (147 kg).

Great tour. They actually travel the entire circuit where rental cars can't even go. Beautiful stops. Ed was great. He's very knowledgeable and friendly. There was no breakfast as advertised, but he provided small snacks/treats throughout the day, plus water. Lunch was great. We would definitely do it again.

Great tour of the eastern part of Maui. Kobi really knows the history of the island. He explained lot about the plants, flowers, trees, and fruit growing in the area. I highly recommend the tour. The lunch was very good also.

I was booked for Maui: Small-Group Road to Hana Sightseeing Tour with Mahalo Tours on December 29 at 7:00am. I was notified on December 28 at 2:09pm that the tour was cancelled because they did not have the minimum of six people to run the tour. This is not acceptable to cancel so late in time. I know for the Small-Group Road to Hana Sightseeing Tour, a minimum of a 48 hour notice is required. For participants to cancel. I did not even have a 24 hour notice that my tour had been cancelled. By the time I was notified on December 28 at 2:09pm, it was too late to book another tour. All the popular tours were sold out. I am disappointed in Mahalo Tours. Warning-Book at your own risk. You will be risking having your tour cancelled at the last minute and your whole day will be wasted.
Prior to booking the tour, I had called Mahalo Tours and I was given a lot of positive information that motivated me to book the Small-Group Road to Hana Sightseeing Tour. These are some of the reasons I was given to book with Mahalo Tours.
1)The best Road to Hana tour on the island.
2)Participants will be served a cooked personalized lunch. Not a boxed lunch or pre-made sandwich like the other companies.
3)The group will be small. The 14 passenger van will seat a maximum of 8 passengers. We will be seated on the left side where the majority of the sights are.
4)I will see more stops than all the other companies. The tour will make between 6-10 stops.
I should have booked a Road to Hana tour with another company. The cost would have been less and the reliability would have been stronger.

Great Tour! Our guide Ed was incredibly knowledgeable and super engaging. So fun and too many highlights to list; from Aunty Sandy’s Banana Bread to swimming in the waterfall pools, black sand beach, to the beautiful town of Hana, this tour is a must to truly experience Maui!!

I would recommend bringing a towel and change of clothes, as there are many stops to swim and facilities to change into dry clothes.

Everything was memorable, the scenery, the guided tour and the food. The van was comfortable with 8 people. The driver was very courteous, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining.

Great experience, highly recommend. George our guide had a wonderful balance of filling our day with stories about the history of Hawaii, explaining the Hawaiian language, pointing out amazing food and providing amazing delicious food all day long. Of course while driving us safely 360 degrees around the east, south and west side of the island past Hana, lava tubes, precious rare botanical wonders, up on Haleakala slopes and more. We took our 3 kids (17-21) and they loved every minute of it. Well worth the expense.

Loved every minute. I can’t imagine visiting Maui and not taking a tour of Hana. This tour agency is fantastic! Small van with plush leather seats, we were constantly fed enroute….cups of pineapple, cups of strawberries, banana bread, lunch was delicious BBQ ….we selected the chicken which came with delicious pasta and salad. BBQ was featured on Gordon Ramsey show. If you want to see the pie majestic beauty of Maui sitting in a comfortable van and great tour guide…..we were with Coby….book this tour. His knowledge on the history of all the islands, flora, and wildlife was awesome!! Appreciated the frequent restroom stops.

Ed was amazing!! He made sure we all had a special, fun-filled day and shared so much interesting information about the history of Maui. He was warm and engaging. We also enjoyed the meal and fresh fruit we had throughout the day.
