Three toed or two toed sloth? Both! Arenal area is one of the best places to see both types of sloths in their natural inhabitant and our eagle-eyed expert guides know perfectly the hot spots to find them.
We will visit a private park in La Fortuna where we will have the opportunity to observe sloths in their natural habitat.

It is a true Costa Rica - experience. We toured in a very small group and had plenty of time to look around and ask questions. Our guide Victor was very knowledgeable and funny. We saw many sloths in their natural habitat and even a sloth mother with her baby. He also pointed out other animals and plants to us. After the tour we enjoyed the fun of making our own sugar cane juice and tortillas in the oweners' outdoor kitchen. It was so great. Really. Fun for all ages if you're up for it.

We had the most fantastic tour with JP (and our driver, Superman!). The sloth tour was fab, running around La Fortuna spotting sloths all over the place - 11 in 90 minutes! JP was really knowledgeable and entertaining, and got us involved in looking for animals as well as learning loads. I loved that we didn't go to an official sloth sanctuary where some practices can be inhumane, but instead relied on JP's legwork the day before and the network of reported sightings to track sloths in the wild.
Later on we walked around the lava flow from the 1968 Arenal eruption, and visited the beautiful La Fortuna waterfall for a refreshing swim. Both were wonderful and JP made the experience even better with his encyclopaedic insight into the nature around Arenal.
Overall, an amazing day. JP made us feel really special and gave us so many great memories within a few hours. We also enjoyed talking to him about life in Costa Rica (and life in general) over lunch. We will definitely look him up if we come to La Fortuna again.
