The sloths play important roles in the diversity of ecosystem. Many of them have already suffered great losses from the ceaseless destruction of their habitats. Many are severely threatened and too many will soon be in danger of extinction if we do not confront the increasing threats facing them. For these reasons, we feel compelled to educate society to ensure their survival in this era.
These mammals have incredible information about evolution, sustainability, and conservation to teach us about.
Come and participate in this educational experience that will show you these animals in their natural habitat.

Johnny was so knowledgeable about sloths! My sisters and I learned so much about this native Costa Rican animal. We saw three wild sloths while on our tour, as well as many rescued birds and monkeys. If you are looking to see sloths in an ethical way and to help support wildlife rescue efforts, you should check out this tour.

Such a superb tour- good value for money, informative, well paced and just fascinating. Our guide, Adriana, was incredibly knowledgable and her passion for this centre is admirable. A must do in the area ?

Johnny was a charismatic and enthusiastic guide, we thoroughly enjoyed this tour and learned much about sloth habits, habitats, predators, and how they poop :)

We also learned about how some sloth "sanctuaries" in CR actually cut down trees to steal sloths from their territory to add to what is essentially a sloth zoo. That is not the situation at Proyecto Asis which truly focuses on seeing the sloths in their natural habitat, conservation, education and rehabilitation.

Johnny helped us view and take photos with a special attachment to his scope.

We saw a three toed sloth and a two toed sloth with a baby on our tour, as well as a porcupine. We did this as a combo with their standard tour. Both are well worth the time and cost. A highlight of our CR trip!

This is the sloth tour to take! We learned so much from our amazing tour guide. Proyecto Asis prioritizes education, rescue/rehabilitation, and social responsibility - it is a terrific organization that really cares about wildlife and nature. Since the sloths are living in the wild, you aren't guaranteed to see any, but we were lucky to see both 2 and 3 toed sloths, including a mother and baby! The tour guide had a spotting scope so we were able to look at them in more detail, and she airdropped us photos at the end of the tour. They treated us to cookies and lemonade at the end, and they also have a cute shop where purchases support their mission.

We loved this visit. Our guide was really knowledgable and engaging. He took time to explain and answer questions and he was really clear about the need to protect and conserve the wildlife and environment. He showed us several places where he had found sloths as well as spotting a rare hawk and basilisk lizard. He was patient, helped us take great pictures and taught us a lot about sloths! We loved it and the philosophy of this centre is fantastic.

I urge anyone wishing to visit Cota Rica to support the more reputable sloth tours such at this one. Johnny was our guide and he could not have been more accommodating or knowledgeable. He spoke excellent English, was extremely passionate and allowed us to go at our own pace. We were also lucky enough to do the wildlife tour with him to see other rescued animals. Just a magical place.
If you are keen to do a sloth tour in Costa Rica, please do your research. Sloths are solitary and places sloth selfies or advertising that you can see lots of sloths or up close are highly unlikely to care for the welfare of these fascinating creatures. You can still see sloths at a centre like this and will not regret it. It slightly out of town from La Fortuna but 100% worth paying extra to get a taxi than to see the ones more local to La Fortuna which is not licenced and where sloths are visibly distressed. Ironically, the entrance fee at Proyecto Asis is half the price of other places.

The tour with Johnny was really nice, we got a lot of information and were lucky to see some sloths and some other animals. The center is one of the good companies who take care of the animals. The people who work there are really helpful and friendly! I recommend the tour.

My friends and I really enjoyed the sloth tour provided by Proyecto Asis! Our tour guide Jonny was very knowledgeable of the different species and we learned more than we could have thought on this tour. We even got to see a mother and baby two-toed sloth together during our visit! The staff was very welcoming and kind and even surprised us with complementary coffee, lemonade, and empanadas de piño after the tour! Highly recommend for family and friends of all ages.

We did both tours; the sloth tour and the animal rescue sanctuary tour, one after each other. Both tours were excellent, our guides were very knowledgeable.
We saw many sloths on the tour, including 2 sloths (separately) both with a baby. Well worth the tour and to support Proyecto Asis for the good work they do.

We went to the project expecting to see a refuge for sloths with a veterinarian and rehabilitation clinics. Our guide Johnny told us that the clinic had been closed since the 2020 pandemics and that we would try to spot sloths in the wild. There was only one and he then told us that they travelled towards the near mountains. Which means that you can actually do the tour without even seeing a sloth. He gave us good explanations anout the lifecycle and characteristics of the sloth but the tour lasted 45 minutes and he then told us that his favorite part of the tour was at the end: cofee and cookies. That was a poor consolation for the entire group who was evidently disappointed. The other side of the project, the animal rescue tour and volunteering activities, might be active but the sloth tour offered on the website and described in guide books is misleading. You try to observe sloths in wild nature over a 500 square meter zone so your chances to see one are slim. They should combine the sloth and animal rescue tours so that you actually get to see animals on top of being educated.
