Very commercial,
The guide Jamsyn presented it enthusiastically
Bear Fort is like a mini zoo
with a number of fat-fed bears
The Salmon River was worth it.
Sitka in itself is nice and interesting
historical place

Fortress of the Bear and the Totem Poles were both interesting and fun. However, we spent too much time near the University and at Silver Bay, apparently trying to kill time. I think the tour could’ve been better if we’d gone to an additional stop like the Raptor Center or even the Russian Orthodox Church or the Baranoff Castle. We had limited time on our excursion from the cruise ship and would’ve preferred exploring the town or one of the suggested activities above versus eating up a lot of time as we did.

Our guide was great and provide a lot of local knowledge. The two hrs goes very fast but you get to see quite a bit. We could have spent many more hrs watching the two sister bears playing at fortress of the bear!

Brett our tour guide was awesome. We had a great day. The bears were just a beautiful experience, seeing them play, sleep, and catch fish was breathtaking. We saw an eagle with her 3 babies which was amazing. All the sights of the day were great. I would definitely use this company again to see the sights.

Our guide was very nice. Took us to the Fortress of the Bear and we were on our own. Local staff were available for any questions. We then drove to see the totem poles, which we didn't get to see. Our guide couldn't go in and we would have had to go in by ourselves and figure out a ride back to the ship. Disappointing.

We boarded the small tour bus (10 people) at Centennial Hall. One of the first rules for effective guides, presenters, or adult teachers is "know your audience". Asking what state I'm from and how I got to Sitka does not cover it. The woman who met us in the parking area was very nice, friendly, and asked meaningful questions. The driver did not. The driver/guide drove us along Silver Bay regaling us with a variety of incorrect facts, criticism of other tour operators, and a non-stop litany of useless commentary. I suggest he return to the used car lot he came from where his true calling is. I was ready to escape when we got to the bear place, along with a dozen other tour buses parked in random, chaotic fashion I last witnessed at the customs area in Tangiers, Morocco. At the haphazard parking area at the Sitka zoo, we entered through the gift shop overflowing with thousands of other tourists. Even though the travel brochures and guide didn't use the term, "zoo"; that's what it is. A small zoo with two types of animals: brown bear and black bear. I attempted to ask our used-car salesman a question about the species name for the bears, but the used-car salesman didn't like my question, so he interrupted me and answered a question I didn't ask. There's a fine line between a politician and used car salesman, but I was leaning toward a politician as my opinion of our guide. After we left the bear parking lot conundrum, we headed toward the National Historical Park with lots of good information about totem poles. Again our guide threw out more misinformation about everything, not pulling in any questions. Since we had been in Sitka 8 days and walked to the National Park twice, we decided to walk back to town in a light rain enjoying not being around that or anything. I was charged $179 /2 people for our tour. A taxi to the bear zoo would have been about $20, admission $15each. So skipping the tour would have saved about $110 and eliminated the annoying guide. To be fair to the guide, my wife and I have four college degrees between us and are history buffs, as well as expert gardeners. We are not your typical tourists. We pay close attention to what is said, so incorrect statements don’t pass muster with us.

Awesome experience! So glad we could go to see the bears! They were amazing to watch and I could have watched all day! Loved touring Sitka by bus- our guide was so knowledgeable and told great stories! I would do it again and most definitely recommend!

The vans were/are in good shape. The tour guide Wendy was really great. It was her first tour of the season. But the communication as to where to meet was terrible. We had no idea when or where to meet the company. We waited at convention centre to find some indication of what or where to connect with tour operator. No one was there. The phone number on company’s profile was wrong. We walked a half mile up to the address on website and of course no one was there. We phoned the location of where tour operator was to take us (Frontier Bear Center) and they were able to give us a number to call. Left vm and then received a call from Rhonda telling us we were late for our tour when they were so ill prepared in first and we’d walked all over hells half acre looking for them in the first place. Very disorganized.
Tour would’ve been good except for poor communication and initial experience. I’d likely not book with them again for the unprofessional experience. I get that it was the first tour of season but a one minute email to let us know where to meet and that they would be there at such and such time would’ve been helpful.
Wendy you did good!
