Perhaps your trip is not complete without a stop at Sintra and Cascais, two unmissable places only half an hour away from Lisbon. The coast harbours many secrets – come and discover them along the coastal avenue connecting the Estoril bay to Cascais. Luxury hotels, a Casino and Renaissance fortresses will feed your eyes. Meet Cascais, a village of fishermen that became the refuge of aristocrats and artists. We then head towards the coast of wild beaches and cliffs until we arrive at the westernmost point of Europe, Cabo da Roca. Here the landscape becomes a blend of sea and mountain – and through the mountain we go and meet the historical centre of Sintra, part of Unesco’s Cultural Heritage. What is unique about it is the way the heritage was built in harmony with the natural landscape. We will stop at Quinta da Regaleira, the unusual Pena Palace and the magnificent Mozarabic National Palace with its 10 centuries of history. The food of the region will be tasted at “Refúgio da Roca”.

The trip was amazing! We visited Sintra National Palace, Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, Capo da Roca and Cascais Village all in one day! We really enjoyed that our guide Jose Dyson was explaining everything to us with details and we learnt so many historical stuff both for the palaces but also for Portugal in general! :)

Our exceptional guide, Jos Dyson, dealt with a very rainy trip to Sintra and Cascais with creativity and good humor. After a prompt pick up at our Lisbon hotel we discussed challenges for viewing the Sintra sites and options to meet our goals within the limitations of wind, fog, and at times a driving rain. While my hope was to tour the Peña Palace, that was simply not possible. Instead Jos provided an informative and well paced tour of the National Palace, which we had all to ourselves. We learned so much about Portuguese history and culture through the examples of architecture, furnishings and art work. Ultimately the yellow weather warning was moving toward red and Jos provided photo stops and lots of information on our drive thru Sintra toward the coast. Stops at Casa do Preto for coffee and sweets and a look at the Colares cellars were unexpected treats. Our lunch at Nortada on the coast was the best meal we had in our two weeks in Spain and Portugal—casually elegant with an extraordinary view, the service and food were simply delightful. Many thanks to Jos for a wonderful day trip. He helped manage our expectations and adjusted the itinerary to work with the weather. His care and assistance in dealing with an unexpected health issue on the drive back was deeply appreciated. Definitely a five star guide even when the weather got only one star.

Pedro was an excellent guide. His knowledge of the area was excellent as was his English. He was very helpful navigating the queues and adjusting the trip around changing weather and closed roads due to a bicycle race. The tour was on time at the start and finish. Most enjoyable day.

Our tour was most memorable! Nuno was our tour guide. He is such a warm person and very compassionate, especially about his country. He took us to a very nice local restaurant. The food was amazing. Overall he was very professional and had a wealth of information regarding the beautiful country of Portugal!

Jose gave us a wonderful tour. He is genuine and charismatic with a ton of Portuguese historical knowledge. Our weather was terrible but Jose made it a wonderful day and we’d do it again. You won’t be disappointed.

This review has been due for some time. We had the pleasure of spending the day with Pedro who took us to Sinatra and Cascais and some other places in Lisbon. Pedro was excellent as a guide and as our driver. We would not have had this much fun and enjoyed Peña Palace and Cascais without Pedro. He is such a gentleman and made sure that we were comfortable and took good care of us throughout our trip. Pedro, thank you very much and hope our paths cross again sometime but until then wish you the best my friend.
Also thank you for organizing the tuk tuk tour the next day with your colleague Rachael. She was outstanding and showed us the historical and cultural parts of Lisbon the next day.
Both, Pedro and Rachael spoke very good English and knew the history and culture very well. This is one of the reason we enjoyed our trip to Lisbon so much.
