Discover the remains of a prehistoric city, that remained buried for almost 4000 years. It gives us unique and valuable information about the art, the architecture, and everyday life back in 2000 BC. Walking within a 4000 year old perfectly preserved settlement, getting to understand how the society was organized and how people lived their lives, seeing the paved streets and the remains of large 2-3 story building complexes, kitchen and toilette facilities, unique wall paintings and a perfect drainage-sewage system, is an experience surely not to be missed!

Seeing the pottery with the original drawings that the archeologists were able to preserve.
Enjoyed learning about how the ancient community adapted to have access to water.

Seeing how people lived thousands of years ago, water, art, homes, streets, furnishings, it was incredible. The downside is our guide went through quite quickly, walking past some sights that we would liked to have paused to ask questions and learn more.

I chose Georgia’s tour based on rating…and I wholeheartedly add my recommendation!! Her passion and knowledge made the tour a great experience. To walk thru the excavation on your own without understanding and appreciating what you’re viewing is a waste, because there are only a few placards (and they don’t offer detailed descriptions). Her knowledge and iPad supplemental pictures were interesting and informative!! She went at our pace and we were very comfortable asking questions. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

Guide Georgia brought the exposed parts of the town to life. She pointed out the “modern” features we did not expect in 3600 year old town. A must see for anyone interested in history or archeology

We had great tour with a wonderful guide. Georgia was very informative, knowledgeable, and friendly. She was very efficient in her presentation, and answered all our questions. She kept the tour moving and it's very clear that she takes pride in the Akrotiri Archeological Site. We highly recommend her and the tour. We had a private family tour.

Tour guide Mariana explained many details of beautiful Akrotiri. You can certainly tour this site by yourself, however having the knowledgeable guide made it come alive for us. We were picked up from our hotel in Oia on time by a professional driver and followed a scenic route to Akrotiri. Highly recommended!

One word: FANTASTIC!!! Georgia was absolutely amazing! She knew so much about everything on Santorini including the Akrotiri archealogical site. She picked us up from our hotel in her car, took us for a tour around the south part of Santorini, including the light house, explanations about the landmarks, crops and buildings and then took us through an in-depth review of the Akrotiri Archealogical Site. We were so enthralled all through the tour and kept asking questions yet Georgian kept answering with in depth knowledge. Even our 13 year old was interracting and asking questions!! Would highly recommend the private tour. It's worth every cent!

The tour guide was ok, but came of as inpatient if you stopped somewhere longer and she had to wait around which should understandably be one of the perks of the money you pay for the private tour and a bit impersonal, felt more like a gig and would only engage in a conversation to give you more details if you insisted and has some previous knowledge. If you missed something and asked her again, she would get annoyed and rudely go: as I already explained...
Although we liked the stand and support the idea, she was very determined to guide us away from the official souvenir shop inside the Akrotiri area and take us to the alternative one on the road side that her colleagues local art historians and archeologists run. In the end, we went to both and as a result can say for ourselves that the alternative is way better and for the right cause- to gather more money for the excavations the government does not provide, but still the guide you hire should be professional and accommodate the client's wishes, not clearly push them to one option and involve them into that much local politics.
We take private guides for all the major sites around Europe and had some great experiences and friendly and dedicated guides, this was not one of them.
We persisted and ignored her getting annoyed and self-involved and in the end made sure we got exactly what we wanted from the tour, but would not recommend this guide.
