This guided walk with our unique guides, Stuart Usher or his son, Richard Usher, will entertain and enthral you. Also we are delighted to introduce two new guides; Dr Alison Duncan and David Forsyth, who are both professional historians and Edinburgh experts.

We limit the tour to 12 guests so everyone is involved (unlike those many tours of 30, 40 or even more!)

Stuart's family has historic connections with Edinburgh (Stuart's great-great Uncle, Andrew Usher, donated the magnificent Usher Hall to the city . Andrew was also known as the 'father of the scotch whisky blending industry').

Their deep knowledge of the cultural, historical and architectural aspects of the city means they have a unique perspective on our wonderful capital.

Your guides will show you the cultural treasures of Edinburgh, the secrets of its past and its famous characters, and are rightly renowned for their entertaining and witty commentary.

Excellent tour. Right balance of overall information with more detailed history. Alison was a fantastic tour guide and really held our interest throughout the tour.

Craig was a friendly, informed and easy tour guide. Great stories that helped put everything in context and filled out the plain history of the area. Very enjoyable.

Stuart Usher, our guide, was a delightful chap full of knowledgeable history of his hometown. We arrived early as we always do for excursions and were quickly joined by the 3 guides, all organized for the day, knowing who was in what geoup. Stuart was friendly, with a nice sense of humor and made sure that his group of 12 were always accounted for.
The excursion was well worth the $ spent. For future travelers I'd remind you to bring comfy (new) shoes as there is alot of hilly climbing in around the Castle. Be dressed weather appropriately, layers and or a thin or heavy coat depending on season. Thank you, Stuart for a fun morning.

First, this is More than 5 stars.
This tour is a full tour of the Old City. It starts at the castle and ends at the train station. It’s interesting from start to end.
Led by a history professor who knows her stuff. Interesting and detailed information at every stop. Not a lecture. A soothing pleasant voice explaining each location as well as giving you the best location for photographs.
You think “3 hours” and it went by so smoothly. One rest/break stop on the Royal Mile for bathroom and coffee somewhere over 1/2 way. Look at your watch and you can’t believe how much time passed, hours much you’ve seen, and how much you’ve learned.
Pace was not too slow but methodical. Guide pointed out in detail where next stop would be. Not too far between stops and not a lot of exertion. Didn’t feel like walked for 3 hours.
At the end your surprised how far you came and from how high you started to how low you finished.
Hands down best tour took in Scotland.

The guide was knowledgeable, but SO SLOW! It would have been a decent hour to 90 min tour, but we gave up after 2 hours. Another family left much sooner. I do not recommend this tour.

Also, we really just crossed the Royal Mile, which is what the tour was supposed to be about, but mostly it was about other things. I don't know if there's just nothing of interest on the Royal Mile or if our guide just wasn't interested in it. Also, I don't think it's good to suggest bringing back public executions.

Alison is amazing. She really knows about Edinburgh, some hidden gems and history. For my vacation time here I had three different tours and this one was the best. Highly recommend.

All of the tour was good. Our tour guide, Craig, was a fount of information and was very attentive in answering our questions. We were very impressed with the tour and would be delighted to recommend it and full praise to Craig too for making the day so enjoyable. I was concerned about the steepness of the Royal Mile, but the tour was conducted via gentle slopes and with plenty of stops for information. I am in my late 60's and these factors are very important to have in a tour. Well done.
