4. Stanze di Raffaello
The former Papal Apartments during periods of the 16th and 17th centuries are often overlooked for time management reasons so ordinary visits have a tendency to minimize time spent in these rooms. The great artist was a rival of Michelangelo who, at the same time, was dwelling in the Sistine Chapel executing his equally titanic fresco. While all rooms are overwhelming in their beauty, the graceful chromatic balancing is possibly the real fantastic characteristic which stands out in these four rooms. Eyes peeled for Raphael's most captivating works, the most famous of which is his iconic "School of Athens".
5. Sistine Chapel
See the rare magic of the Vatican Museums in the evening when the doors are open to the Sistine Chapel after the crowds have gone home. Get marooned in this religious and artistic jewel, over five centuries old and safeguarding some of the world's greatest frescoes.

Okay, it's the Vatican. You have to do it. Is night better than day? I'm not sure it makes a difference. Is a tour guide worth it? Yes. Did we happen to have the best tour guide? Probably not. Would I recommend this tour? I really think you need one, so sure, this one does tours.

Amazing tour. Mario is excellent. Full of knowledge and really fun and lovely as a guide. Would definitely recommend as a way to make the most of the Vatican.

The tour guide just skipped through part with apollo belvedere and I didn't even get to see it. Also we wasted half an hour on listening to him talk about timeline of sistine chapel outside without moving

I’ve been to the Vatican museums twice before but in the day. This was a whole other experience. The sculptures and paintings being lit up differently and more dramatically was fantastic. It was still crowded but nowhere near the levels during the day in the heat! Also nice to be with whole groups moving at a quick speed. Loved it.

We arrived at the ticket pick up location and 3 people were there to greet us!
Mario was our tour guide and he was fun and very knowledgeable about the Vatican.
He was clear on all aspects of the tour. He made it so easy to enter the museum and added many fascinating facts about many art works and their history. He was top notch and so was the tour!

Your was very long but Sistine chapel made it worth it. Didn’t feel “VIP” as it was still very packed but probably much less so than during the day.

The tour itself was marvelous, but exponentially enhanced by the incredible tour guide experience with Mario. Not only was he knowledgeable, but he shared the knowledge in a very personal and engaging manner. Charming and funny, Mario made the experience for me!

Th subject of the tour itself was amazing, but our tour guide Mario really made it spectacular. His knowledge and passion for the subject kept the group engaged and entertained. I learned so many new things about the Vatican, the papacy, and the beautiful paintings. I can’t recommend the tour and Mario specifically enough.
