1. Civitavecchia Port
This Rome shore excursion has been designed for those who wish to enjoy a complete overview of Rome. 2. Piazzale Garibaldi
The Janiculum Hill is one of the best places in Rome to get a panoramic view of the church domes and bell towers of The Eternal City. In the piazza stands a statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi, one of the central figures in the unification of Italy in the 19th Century.
3. Isola Tiberina
Tiberina Island is a tiny island located in the southern bend of the Tiber River. Associated with healing since ancient times, the island is still home to one of Rome's hospitals.
4. Arch of Constantine
One of several triumphal arches in Rome, the Arch of Constantine sits near the Colosseum and can be viewed without an entry fee.
5. Circus Maximus
Circus Maximus is an Ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium made famous in the movie "Ben Hur." Situated in the valley between the Aventine and Palatine Hills, it was the first and largest stadium in ancient Rome and its later Empire.
6. Domus Augustana
The Domus Augustana was the royal palace of the Emperor Augustus. Set on the Palatine Hill, the emperor could watch the chariot races in the Circus Maximus from his home.
7. Teatro di Marcello
Teatro Marcello is an unusual architectural site in Rome. It was originally an arena in Ancient Rome, built in the later years of the Roman Republic. Fast forward many centuries and dwellings were built on top of the amphitheatre. Today, these apartments are some Rome's most expensive real estate, home to the well-heeled of The Eternal City.
8. Roman Forum
From the back side of the Capitoline Hill, take a trip back in time as you view the fascinating Roman Forum. This public space was the center of civic life in ancient times and contains the ruins of many important structures, including the Rostrum where Marc Antony gave his impassioned speech over the body of assassinated Julius Caesar.
9. Monumento a Vittorio Emanuele II
The monument to Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a unified Italy, is a gigantic monument in white marble, the center-piece of Piazza Venezia. Across the piazza is the balcony from which Mussolini gave his famous speeches during fascist times.
10. Trevi Fountain
Trevi Fountain is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. The fountain has appeared in several notable films, most notably Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita."
11. Pantheon
A former Roman temple to all the gods, now a Catholic church, the Pantheon is a marvel of Roman engineering. You are sure to be fascinated by the coffered ceiling with is giant oculus (wide enough to lower a double-decker bus through!) KINDLY NOTE: Viewing the Pantheon from the exterior is free. As of July 2023, a ticket is required to visit the interior. The ticket costs 5 Euro. If you'd like to go inside the Pantheon, you can purchase your ticket on site.
12. Piazza Navona
Built on the site of the Stadium of Domitian in the 1st Century AD, this arena was later transformed into a plaza exemplifying Baroque-Roman architecture. It features important sculptural works in its three fountains. The most impressive stands in the center of the piazza: Bernini's beautiful Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers)
13. St. Peter's Square
At St. Peter's Square, you'll enjoy the expansive piazza lined by Bernini's elegant colonnades and Christendom's largest church. Time permitting, you can enter the basilica (in high season, lines to get through security and proper-apparel screening are usually very long). KINDLY NOTE: The Vatican Museums are not included in this excursion.

• MINIMUM NUMBERS apply. There is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are not enough passengers to meet requirements. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund.

Fantastic tour! Our driver picked us up right as we exited the ship at the time requested holding a sign with my name on it. Small group of only 8 people in a comfortable, air conditioned minivan. Took us to all the places listed. Our driver Fabio was super nice and respectful. All communication with "Driver in Rome" was fantastic. They always emailed me back right away when I had questions. Driver had us back to our ship at the exact time the tour was to end (90 minute drive to Rome, 6 hour tour, 90 minute drive to ship). Book with confidence! We found this to be both reliable and exciting!!

This was a wonderful way to see Rome in a day! Pickup was easy, right off the cruise port. Our driver Fabio was wonderful and knowledgeable. We stopped at too many places to count and enjoyed a quick lunch. Highly recommend!

There are multiple reviews on the tours, and I would agree with everyone who has given a 5 star rating. The tours that Driver In Rome offer were amazing, especially if you are cruising and don’t want to be paraded around the city in a tour bus; rather you want something intimate and tailored to your wants.

What I want to acknowledge is the customer service set forth by this company. I was recently on a cruise and started a FB page. It was my mission to book my own excursions, filling them with people from my ship. I did all the research and came across Driver In Rome. From the moment I booked, I could not have been happier with the correspondence. Every email was answered within 24hours, giving me the answers to my every question. Then, the day of the tour, I was able to Whats App the company and immediately got replies back from them. There was even a snafu with my Colosseum tickets and through whats app, Erika was able to fix everything. The whole experience from booking to end was phenomenal.

I also want to mention that I had been in touch with Sharon, a customer experience representative for the company. Long story short, there was a hiccup one day while on my cruise (100% me, not the company) and after talking with her, she helped me solve the problem I had.

Long story short, the company has great reviews of the tours, but their customer service should also be recognized for all of their amazing work. I booked 3 tours with them while on my trip, and I wouldn’t hesitate one bit to book them again.

Where to begin? What an amazing day. Everything was well planned out and organized. Enough time for each stop. Our guide/ driver David was a fantastic driver and guide, very knowledgeable about the history of Rome. He dropped us off closed to each cite, avoiding long walks. In addition, a very comfortable and cleaned bus with the advantage of going places where the typical cruise ship tours can't take you. It's truly one of the best tours I have ever been on. P.S they can even help you get your tickets to the colosseum if you want to go inside, but you must contact them in advance to arrange them.
Finally, don't worry. You'll be back to your cruise ship before the typical shore excursion from that same Cruise Ship.

Definitely recommend this tour, so many sights to see in such a small amount of time. Clean van with great air con made for a comfortable day. Driver did an amazing job driving the busy roads to ensure we got to see everything. Definitely recommend this tour.

Sometimes you get lucky. We certainly did with Riccardo. I did a lot of research, as I always do, and decided on the 'Rome Small-Group Escorted Tour from Civitavecchia: 8 People Max tour'. This was a 9 hour full day shared tour by DriverinRome.
We had arranged to meet our driver as soon as the ship docked but as P&O only allow their own cruise line tour passengers off first, before independent passengers, we had to sneak on the end of the first group leaving the ship and mingle in. It is a 9 hour tour so we were determined not to mess up our itinerary.
Riccardo picked us up literally from the gang plank (holding my name up) and after a few steps we (my wife, brother and his wife) climbed into an extremely comfortable Mercedes.
It is about an hours drive to Rome from Civitaveccia, then Riccardo drove us to some truly amazing places. His knowledge was outstanding. If we wanted to see something in particular or spend a bit longer at one of several stops, absolutely no problem. He was so helpful and, thankfully, a very good driver. The driving and scooters there is crazy. Luckily Riccardo was allowed to use the bus / taxi lanes and also knew the backstreets, so we were whisked from one location to another in no time. Hence we saw so many sites.
One surprise was, when we arrived at St Peter's Square the Pope was there conducting a ceremony. So we were able to actually see him.
Right at the end of the tour we had enough time, if we wanted, to visit a 'surprise' before heading back out of Rome. We all agreed, and were taken on a mystery tour around and up a hill to the most amazing church: The Basilica of Saint Sabina. Built between 422 and 432. One of the earliest Christian churches ever. Riccardo knew we liked history and architecture and nailed the tour with this stop.
Throughout, communications with this company have been spot on. Every query answered quickly. We have been on many shore excursions over the years and this was one of the very best. So without hesitation, I thoroughly recommend this tour.
In 30 years they have never missed a ship.
Ask to have Riccardo to drive you, you will not regret it.

Alex was on time, personable and informative. We hit many of the highlights in Rome and were also able to enjoy a morning coffee and an excellent leisurely lunch. His restaurant choice was the perfect spot to experience the local fare.
