Had an amazing time! Super great activity to do with kids. Our son is 7 and daughter is 10. They loved every second of it. My husband and I loved it just as much. Tour guide Paulina and the photographer Luis were just great. A must do. Decently priced and it was all around 3 hours. Amazing for adventurers. Very organized and informative. Could see it difficult on people with knee or back problems.

The Rio Secreto cenote experience was the best excursion that we had on our trip to Playa del Carmen. The tour group was small enough so that everyone was able to fully share in this nature's phenomenal beauty. The tour guide - Miguel was informative, attentive, respectful and humorous. Learning about the Indigenous Mayan habitat and their reverence and care for the land was truly an honour and immense gratitude for their continued stewardship. Many would complain about not being able to take their own photos but it made sense to have an experienced photographer along the tour so that the group could move along smoothly and safely while being immersed and present in the surroundings instead of worrying about how you looked in selfies!! We had a choice of well-positioned photos to purchase at the end of the 90 minute tour which also included a buffet. Would not recommend for anyone with claustrophobia, balance or mobility challenges. Life jackets, helmets were mandatory; wetsuits, beach shoes and towels were offered. Recommend to wear bathing suit and a change to dry clothes afterwards.

We had no idea what this adventure was going to be. We were greeted with an on time pick up. When we got to the Rio Secreto site we were promptly picked up by another van to take us to our adventure site. Our person was Victor who walked us through what was going to happen. We were provided wetsuits (recommended), walking poles ( I needed one), life jackets (required), helmets (required and necessary) and water socks (I brought my own but it was nice they had them available). A short walk and then we entered the river in the cave.). So much fun! All types of stalagtites and stalagmites and different forms of lime and calcium deposits. The water was not too cold and the 90 minute tour was just right

Pristine caves and immaculate water inside. It was magical wading through the water. They take really good care of the caves to preserve them for future. This was a 5* experience. However, I wouldn't rate it a 5* because of the exorbitant photo prices they charge at the end of the tour.

We enjoyed this experience from start to finish. Our guide, Amaro, was very knowledgeable and helpful. The lunch was also great. Highly recommended if you love an adventure. If you're claustrophobic or suffer with anxiety, please skip this excursion. Some of the passages are narrow, water is deep, and the area is pitch black. We had to crawl through some areas. It would be a terrible place to have a panic attack.

This was truly enjoyable and an opportunity I am so glad I didn’t miss. It’s mind blowing that an underwater cave system this large was not fully discovered until 2006! Jared was an excellent tour guide! He paid attention to our comfort level, welcomed questions and answered them well. He clearly has a respect and enthusiasm for this wonder of nature and it came across in his tour.

The experience was impressive, very fun and interesting, I recommend it, but according to them they did not allow me to enter with my cell phone for security and on the tour I realized that this is 100% a lie since the only reason for this is to not allow you to take your their own photos and then charge you 100 dollars for the photos taken by them and the price of the tour is 70 dollars this seemed like a very dirty practice on their part I left indignant at not being able to take photos of such a wonderful place

We visited Rio Secreto as our selected activity as part of an award trip we were on in the area. We're so glad we chose this option, as it was an amazing experience and wonderful visit. Our guide, Milo, was absolutely outstanding. He was friendly, knowledgable and helpful, without overdoing it. He was clearly experienced and cared that we had a safe and fun time. We've been on lots of tours in many countries and Milo was among the best guides we've had.

The cave system is really incredible. You'll be absolutely in awe of the formations and underground system. At the risk of sounding sappy, I felt like I was 'one with nature' through the entire tour. Milo had us all turn off our headlights for a few moments of meditation in one part of the cave and it felt like a spiritual experience. It's one I won't forget.

For those considering the tour, here's my feedback on what you should expect/know to make your decision and make the most of your visit:
- It is about 1 1/2 hours of walking with ups and downs on uneven surfaces on land and water.
- If you are unable to duck, squat, or if you have low vision, you'll struggle to maneuver the path and /or see rocks and objects overhead. If you're of reasonable fitness, you'll be absolutely fine.
- Take the walking stick! Seriously. You'll need it for balance and judging water depth. Unless you're an experienced guide, I don't think you could manage without it, regardless of your fitness level. You are not allowed to touch the walls of the cave.
- There are very few points where the roof is low, so if you're worried about feeling too closed in, it shouldn't be an issue for you.
- Bats may fly overhead, but they will not come close to you.

I highly recommend this journey. It was a highlight of our entire trip and we absolutely loved it.

Re pictures: Yes, they are expensive and their process for viewing/purchase needs to be fine-tuned. It took too long and we were part of a group of 10 who didn't know each other well --- the person managing picture purchase was pushing us to buy ALL the pictures for the group at a discounted rate, which would have meant sharing email addresses, transferring money to one person, etc.... a big pain. We had to actually ask to purchase just our pictures, which we could, but were getting the hard sell on the group. All that being said, I completely understand why they would not allow cameras in the cave after going on the tour. From a safety perspective alone, unless you had a GoPro type device, it would be too difficult to manage. Yes, 99 bucks is a lot for 20 or so pictures, but it goes to a good cause of preserving the area.
