Great tour. Robben Island was fascinating, and guide Luther made all of the arrangements. The same for the trip to the top of Table Mountain, including some history and natural context regarding the Mountain and nearby geographical formations. Had only one spare day in Cape Town; glad I took this tour.

This is an excellent way to see a lot in a single day! Elie, our guide, was fantastic. Really, we can't say enough positive things about him. He was extremely knowledgeable about South African history and shared so much with us. He accommodated our requests for a soda stop and ATM. He knew how to get us in and out of sites with ease and in a timely manner. He had a great way of giving us our space while also helping us navigate the locations. I highly recommend this tour and our guide! It was a great day!

We had a really great time despite the high winds and rain. We were not able to take the cable car but Finton was a really wonderful guide and we were very satisfied with the day. The car was comfortable and the places chosen by Finton to stop for coffee and to have lunch were well considered and perfect for the day. Thank you we highly recommend this trip.

I did a lots of guided visits and excursions in the world (Italy , Spain , Portugal etc etc ) and fortunately we had so many good and perfect guides to help us understand the whole specifics of the sites that we visited
But this time with Jean Marie , it is by far the best experience we ever had and a full understanding .
Jean Marie didn’t count for time or extra places and the smallest details to offer us me and my wife
Thank you a lot Jean Marie for your kindness to make our two days that we spent with you a such wonderful experience

Bravo and keep it up

Elie & Sana Karam

Luther was an excellent guide. He worked hard to make my day work for me. Luther was kind and considerate and I appreciated him being my guide.
I found Robben Island to be a thought provoking visit and, for me, it was sad but it’s something that we should go to when visiting Cape Town, if only out of respect.l
Table Mountain was outstanding and the views were amazing. Luther also took me on a tour of Bo Kaap, which was very interesting.

How was my 1 day layover in Cape Town? It was amazing. I was little nervous going to Cape Town, South Africa 🇿🇦 , because this was the first international trip by myself. I booked my ticket, researched Cape Town areas and reserved a hotel in Sea Pointe. I found a lot of tour options on Trip Advisor and Viator. I chose Zion Escape Tours because they offered private tours at a good price and had great customer ratings. Zion Tours communicated with me before my arrival. They confirmed my pick up location (Cape Town Airport) & gave me information about my tour guide. Upon my arrival in Cape Town, my tour guide Mazenga was on time to pick me up. He carried my luggage to our comfortable new suv tour vehicle, and off we went for a very fun day! I was tired, Mazenga walked me through a coffee shop and helped me with my first transaction in Cape Town, a coffee ☕️! Cape Town accepts USD and credit cards. While we drove to our first destination to see the penguins, we stopped along the way and saw beautiful beaches and colorful boat docks. Boulders Beach was great 👍 Mazenga and I entered immediately, we didn't wait in long line to get in. 😀 The penguins were so cute!! Next stop was Cape of good Hope. A beautiful drive and we saw baboons and ostriches along the way! Mazenga took great photos of me at Cape of good Hope. We had some extra time so we also stopped by Cape Point which was a very short drive and trolley ride up the mountain. You can see the Indian ocean and Atlantic ocean meet in the water. We had lunch on top of Cape Point - tasty grilled prawns! After our visit to Cape of good Hope and. Cape Point, we took Chapman's drive to our next destination. There were so many beautiful views of white sand beaches, a mix of red Sedona and heavy green foliage in the mountains. We took some pit stops for photos too! I took a little nap and by the time I woke up we were at Table Mountain. There was a large cloud on top of the mountain, when we were up top we couldn't see much but it was still very magical. Mazenga found some Dissis, a very cute little animal family on the side of the mountain. What an eventful day! Mazenga completed my tour by dropping me off at my hotel in Sea Pointe. Mazenga has a lot of good friends, we were waving and saying hello to a lot of other guides. Mazenga is a professionally trained and certified tour guide. He has lived in Cape Town for at least 10 years and is a father of 3 daughters. I had such a wonderful time. I plan to come back with my husband so we can experience the tour together with Mazenga again.

DO NOT USE THIS TOUR OPERATOR

I booked this tour expecting to go to the main three attractions in Cape Town, which is Table Mountain, Cape of Good Hope, and the Boulder Penguins. I spent $245.18 USD to do this as a private tour. There were other tours just doing Cape of Good Hope and the Boulder Penguins ranging between $43.62 (group) to $116 not including entrance fees (private). But these tours did not include Table Mountain, so I bit the bullet.

Unfortunately, this greedy tour operator (a couple, Xoli and Armando) did not inform me before the tour that Table Mountain was closed. I would have definitely canceled and gone with one of the cheaper tours. When I requested a partial refund during my tour, they were very non-responsive. And when I finally got traction, they refunded me back only $20 USD for the Table Mountain tickets. Table Mountain was 1/3 of the tour itinerary. My tour had ended early! As such, I should have gotten at least $75 back, if not $95. They still would have been profitable.

They don’t even have full time staff, but hire freelancers, which is a way to avoid paying benefits to their employees. The minimum daily limit to pay tour guides in Cape Town is R1,200 ($68), even though most tour operators side ball these freelancers by only paying them R850 ($48.35). And my freelance tour guide was even having to drive her own car!

So let’s say they did pay the minimum to the guide, R1,200 ($68). The Boulder Penguins entrance fee is R152 ($8.65) and the Cape of Good Hope entrance fee is R360 ($21.39). And this isn’t even considering the special deals they likely have with these sites. The viator commission rate is 20% ($49).

$245 - $98.04 (wages, tickets) - $49 (viator commission) = $97.96. They refunded me $20 and are still pocketing at the minimum, $80. That’s cool, I’m all for them still making a profit, but when compared to the other private tour and the fact I didn’t see Table Mountain, they are definitely screwing me over.

If I got a $75 refund, which should have been totally justifiable, they would have still profited $40 USD, at the very minimum. It would have likely been way more, too! $245 - $75 (refund) = $170 - $98.04 (wages, tickets) - $34 (new viator commission) is roughly $40 net profit.

The only good thing about my tour was my guide. Notando is incredible! I’ve been to 73 countries now and she has been the best tour guide I’ve ever had. She is super down to earth and is filled with so much knowledge, enthusiasm, and love about her home country. For any tour operator, I would highly recommend her freelance services. And pay her what she is worth.

All in all, use a tour operator with integrity.
