We had been to the Palace before on our own and it was stunning but we really knew nothing of the history. Or very little. Javier was incredible. On our ride from the hotel to the palace he gave us a history of Madrid and once on the Palace grounds, his knowledge of the building and individual rooms was impressive. We really enjoyed the tour.

Our tour guide was Maria and we loved her. She was knowledgable about the Palace's history and art, and better than that, she was fun to be with. We had a blast with her. My husband has a little trouble climbing stairs and somehow, Maria and her friends at the Palace had us on elevators so we didn't have to drag ourselves up the huge main staircase.
The rooms in the Palace are exquisite. Brocade wall coverings, tapestries, paintings on the ceiling, statues, furniture from the Hapsburg's, great rooms for galas, gorgeous and enormous chandeliers, marble everywhere. I could definitely live there and thanks to Maria, we know how to get around in the Palace.

Jaime was an amazing guide - really taught us so much history and made the experience so much better than wandering around on our own. Skipping the lines is a plus in 90 degree heat, too. Great to meet a local and get restaurant recommendations as well- a bonus! Highly recommended!
