Winter in Iceland is famous for it's Aurora Borealis, better known as the Northern lights. Embark on a night tour to hunt for the Northern Lights and enjoy magical moments in the vast natural landscapes of Iceland. From Reykjavik we will be hunting the Northern Lights in the west of Iceland, passing Borgarnes town. But we monitor the weather closely and ensure that we go to the best places where you are more likely to see the Northern Lights.
We at Mercury are trying to do any single tour like this as a private. But sometimes weather making us mad so on that way we need to share previous travelers with current. Max 8 person in wan if that happens.

Andres re-booked us from our original date because the weather was not looking promising, which we appreciated that it’s weather dependent so were happy to be flexible. The day he agreed to take us out he already had other bookings. We made clear we’d booked a private tour and were only happy with a private car.
He organised for a friend to drive us and so that seemed fine and we all went out together. While he’d been clear to manage expectations about the visibility not being great, I was really disappointed we only went to check one spot and stayed about 20 minutes before turning around and heading back to Reykjavík. It really felt like we should have tried a bit harder, but it seemed the other tourists in our group wanted to head back so we all left. There was no real discussion, before I realised we weren’t going to see any other possible locations but were heading back to Reykjavik.
Our driver then got into a car accident. We weren’t hurt and I understand these things happen, we don’t blame her at all. My review is very much around the fact that it seemed minimal effort was put in to find any additional spots to see the northern lights.
My husband and I went out in our own car the evening before with similar conditions and had much better luck just by sticking with it a bit longer and driving a little further.
Andres did send us a partial refund without us having to ask, because we had to pile into the one car for the rest of the drive back after the accident.

We saw them!!! It was a particularly cloudy day, but the KP index was a 6 so Andres used his expert knowledge to find them for us in three separate locations! We got to stay and watch them until they disappeared and then we went to the next spot, he even drove us so we could stop for a coffee and a snack.
10/10 would recommend, there wasn’t a bus or coach in sight, and it was just us!!!

Andres was absolutely brilliant!
Andres helped me plan a proposal under the northern lights, and even though we sadly didn’t see them that evening, he still helped make the evening memorable & special.
He took us to a lighthouse, where I popped the question to my now fiancé. He took professional photos of the moment which he later sent to us.
The next day he kindly took us back to the lighthouse during daylight so we could see the views of where the proposal happened, and again took more photos of us.
Andres, thank you for everything you did for us. I recommend this man for your private tour, he really does go above and beyond!

Haven't been to see the lights. Weather not right according to our guide. We have paid for a private guide- vehicle for three of us - obviously very expensive but as yet no tour.
I will change my review if we get a chance to go. If we don't we are praying we get a refund. To be continued...

Seeing the Northern Lights was the highlight of our girls trip! Andres was very communicative from the start and kept an eye on the weather throughout the day staying in touch. He was determined to find them for us. It was an amazing experience seeing many different aspects of the lights while also getting educated on the aurora borealis. I highly recommend Andres and Mercury Grail!

Andres was a great guide and worked so hard to make sure we saw the northern lights! Our first two nights were cloudy and rainy so not ideal and Andres recommended we wait. So glad we did because the lights were so beautiful! Highly recommend!

Andres was incredible! The night we originally scheduled for our tour was not a good night for the lights. However, Andres stayed in touch with us and two nights later we went out hoping to see them. He drove to all his secret spots and although it took a bit, we found them and it was amazing! My friend said it was the most amazing experience of her life. I don't know of any other tour operator that would have been so dedicated to making sure we saw this incredible experience. He also told us wonderful stories of Iceland and its history.

We had an amazing experience on our private tour thanks to Andres! He is very personable and shared so much with us about what life is like in Iceland. You can tell that his work comes from an authentic place and that he has an appreciation for meeting new people. He knew exactly where to go so that we could get the best chance at seeing the northern lights. They were breathtaking!!! We cannot thank him enough.

Our guide Andres was terrific. He’s very knowledgeable about Iceland in general and the Northern Lights in particular. He got us to a great (dark) location just in time for nature to put on a nice light show. It wasn’t like the super-bright (often photoshopped) lights one sees on a postcard but this was REAL. This was our first time seeing the aurora-I hope to do it again.
