1. Castelo dos Mouros
Moorish Castle – Sintra Monuments Skirting two Sintra mountain ranges, the Moorish Castle dates back to the early days of the Moorish occupation of the Peninsula - the eighth century. After many attempts, was finally taken by Dom Afonso Henriques first king of Portugal in 1147, and was built the first Christian Chapel of the city, dedicated to St. Peter of Penaferrim. In the romantic period, in 1860, the walls were restored under the supervision of Dom Fernando II, husband of Dona Maria II, who wooded the surrounding areas, and gave a new dignity to the ancient medieval ruins. Noteworthy is the Moorish Cistern inside and the so-called Royal Tower. Located about 3.5 km from the historic center of Sintra.
2. Centro Historico de Sintra
Historic Center Sintra village from the municipal heritage to the world heritage, properly classified by UNESCO, visit the historical center of the romantic village of Sintra, many buildings and remains of various periods and cultural movements remain.
3. Quinta da Regaleira
Palace and Quinta da Regaleira Museums and Palaces Very close to the historic center of Sintra is Quinta da Regaleira, one of the most enigmatic sights of Sintra. Quinta da Regaleira was built in the early twentieth century by millionaire Antonio Augusto Carvalho Monteiro (1848-1920), who managed to realize one of his dreams here with the help of scenographic architect Luigi Manini (1848-1936). Surrounded by lush greenery, Palácio da Regaleira is a fascinating discovery. The palace was built in a romantic revivalist style, imitating Gothic, Manueline and Renaissance architectural and decorative forms, mixed with mythical and esoteric symbolism. A special mention is reserved for the Holy Trinity Chapel, where visitors can take a spiral staircase down to the crypt to discover the monumental initiation pit that, deep down, leads through a cave to an amazing lake hidden in the middle of the gardens. .
4. Park and National Palace of Pena
Park and National Palace of Pena Museums and Palaces Pena National Palace Visit the fantastic Pena Palace exponent of 19th century Romanticism in PortugalSet on the top of Monte da Pena, the palace was built on the site of a former monastery. Built by D. Fernando de Saxe Coburg-Gotha, who married Queen Dona Maria II in 1836. After falling in love with Sintra, he decided to buy the convent and surrounding lands to build a summer palace for the royal family. A restaurant has been installed in one of the palace wings, with a terrace offering a beautiful panoramic view over the Sintra Mountains and the coast.

We had a great tour with George who shared lots of Portugal facts and history as we drove too and from Sintra. He was so knowledgeable about what we should do, where we should go and how long we should spend at each stop.

Filipe was an AMAZING tour guide!! He knew so much about the history of Portugal and knew Sintra like the back of his hand. The tour itself was out of this world! Pena Palace is definitely a must-see when in Lisbon. And the town of Sintra is like nothing any of us had ever seen. It was like being in the Enchanted Forest. Highly recommend this tour for anyone in the Lisbon area!

We had a nice trip to Sintra with our guide, George, who was very kinda and knowledgeable. We recommend buying the separate tickets and transfer to Pena Palace ahead of time if interested. We did the 10 am entrance, which worked well. Honestly, you could just walk around the outside of Pena Palace and still see the views without as many crowds. The second castle we saw was less crowded and preferred. Beautiful scenery!

Our tour guide Margarita was awesome! Very informative and super friendly. Her English was great. She was also really flexible, giving us the option to lengthen the tour on the day. She also was an avid photographer and took great photos of our day together

My daughter and I did the half-day private Sintra tour from Lisbon. Pretty sure Felipe was our guide/driver and, yes he looks exactly like Gerard Butler. He was lovely, very engaging and eager to share his wealth of knowledge about the sites we were about to visit. First up was the Moorish Castle. We practically had the place to ourselves. Next up was the Aladdin like Pena Palace. I bought entrance tickets and transportation tickets for the little bus that takes you up the big hill to gate beforehand. This place was more crowded so, if you don't want to wait on lines to buy entrance ticket(s), buy them online beforehand. You could spend alot of time here if you want to see the gardens (we didn't). After that, we went to the charming town of Sintra..Felipe dropped us off for a bit so we could walk around, sample the yummy pastries, and eat lunch. Last was a visit to Quinta da Regaleira - a Dracula like, slightly foreboding castle that is the home of the famous Initiation Well. This was my favorite. Walking down that circular well, getting darker as you descend. Fabulous. Do it. The day was overcast so that really added to the whole experience.
We were picked up at our hotel around 9am and dropped back off around 3:30. We had a great day!
