The Ben Ezra Synagogue (Hebrew: בית כנסת בן עזרא‎, Arabic: معبد بن عزرا‎), sometimes referred to as the El-Geniza Synagogue (Hebrew: בית כנסת אל גניזה‎) or the Synagogue of the Levantines (al-Shamiyin),[1] is situated in Old Cairo, Egypt. According to local folklore, it is located on the site where baby Moses was found.[2] This was the synagogue whose geniza or store room was found in the 19th century to contain a treasure of abandoned Hebrew, Aramaic and Judeo-Arabic secular and sacred manuscripts. The collection, known as the Cairo Geniza, was brought to the University of Cambridge in Cambridge, England at the instigation of Solomon Schechter. It is now divided between several academic libraries, with the majority being kept at the Cambridge University Library.

It was a nice, safe way to visit the Citadel and old city. I enjoyed seeing some mosques that are historical but also not too busy. My guide was very knowledgeable. You will be taken to a papyrus shop, cotton clothing shop and parfumerie but not required to make any purchases

The tour was great! Our guide, Kholoud was the best, she was very nice! She showed us the city’s best parts and made everything possible that we wanted. We went to Khan El Khalili, Islamic Cairo and Coptic Cairo! Dont miss this tour!

This day trip is worth it only if you are interested in Egyptian history. Otherwise there are better mosque and church architectures around the world.
There was lot of construction going around adding noise and just to the 40°c heat.

It was very hard to understand our tour guide because he had a heavy accent and spoke very quietly, and he didn't understand almost anything that we would say to or ask of him. It was very frustrating to be guided by and dependent upon someone who didn't really speak or understand English. The tour guide was also rude to me at least a couple of times - angrily asking me why I did or didn't do or say something.

Fantastic we did 3 Mosques 3 CopticChristian sites including the church where the holy family stayed while in exile and Ben Ezra synagogue. Later we went to the Khan El Khalili bazaar and that was wonderful. Our guide was Yasmine and she was very good and very helpful

I will caveat by saying that this was our only negative experience in Egypt and an outlier even with the tour company with whom we enjoyed a fantastic tour in Luxor. That said...

1. Our guide was sexist. He didn't ask my girlfriend what she did for work or her name. He refused to engage with any of her questions, apparently because he thought she didn't understand concepts like monotheism. He also ignored repeated requests from me to actually speak to her like a person.

2. Our guide was borderline racist. He repeatedly dismissed follow up questions from my girlfriend (mainly prompted by his very brusque and contextless intros of various sights) as the result of a lack of cultural understanding because she's Chinese. He told us several times he didn't like Chinese people. Honestly bizarre that he wouldn't at least keep this to himself.

3. Our guide was apparently uninterested in what we actually went to see. He gave thin at best introductions of Christian Cairo. When we asked for longer time to explore the Khan el-Khalili market, he seemed actively resentful and stated that there was no point staying longer to see it as it was full of Chinese junk (see point 2...)

4. When we asked for a photo looking out over Cairo from the Muhammad Ali Mosque, he took the phone, didn't take the photo and delivered a rambling and deeply patronising spiel about how we should make memories with our eyes.
