Going to Belmonte means discovering and understanding the religious and psychological phenomena of cryptojudaism. You will meet descendants of the Marranos, get to hear about how the secret Jewish traditions were discovered in the beginning of the XX century.

Roza led and arranged a fantastic tour. We visited Belmonte, a city with crypto Jews hidden since the inquisition in the 1500s. In addition to skillfully driving us the 2 1/2 hours from Porto, she introduced us to a descendant, we toured the Jewish museum, the synagogue and the castle, and then returned us to Porto with a couple more surprise sites. All in all, a wonderful day.
