Sensational views and guided walk by Bridie. We opted for the Escapist guided walk, choice made by Miss 9. She skipped her way through it intrigued and engaged by the interesting stories shared and the engagement by the tour guide. Miss 12 enjoyed this also and we enjoyed the wander and soaking up the atmosphere of the historical site. There is an Interactive museum that the kids enjoyed getting to learn about different people of Port Arthur, trying the chains and playing a game of nine mans morris. There is a lot to see and a big walking day. I recommend planning this day early in the trip, bring hat, water and byo lunch if you prefer. If you need a golf cart to get you around the grounds, just ask everyone is very helpful. Great customer service by Alister and his wife who greeted us and then sent us on our way. We took the car shuttle between the exit and the car park. Thanks team! Made for a fantastic day!

Communication was great from booking to end of trip. Our Guide Evan was brilliant - totally focused on ensuring everyone enjoyed their trip to the max - spare phone battery pack for me so I didn’t miss any photo opportunities and he waited in line for for my friend’s lunchtime snack so she wouldn’t miss the boat tour scenery. The Tasmanian scenery is stunning and Port Arthur was fantastic - would love to go back and spend more time there one day. Thank you Evan and Grayline for a wonderful tour.

Mark was a great guide for the day. Pick-up was a block away from the hotel due to the delights that are Hobart’s one way streets.

Lots of people on the tour that particular day, the coach was brand new, spacious, comfortable and clean.

We were given tons of information on the ride up. The stop at Richmond for photos, coffee, toilets and feeding the ducks was a nice stretch of the legs.

The stop at the park was gorgeous views and well worth it!

Once at Port Arthur the tickets were arranged and we were given some time to explore before the cruise. There isn’t much time between arrival and cruise so I used that time to make a rough plan of what I wanted to see.

The cruise was nice, the boat is well looked after and the crew were all very kind. I think you can purchase extras to get off and stop at the Isle of the Dead but with so much to see that I didn’t end up doing.

A lot of the cafés were closed. You can book a reservation at the restaurant or order some expensive food at one of the open cafés. There was also the option to bring a bag and have your own picnic in the sun. There isn’t much seating around with tables however so just keep that in mind.

Mark gave a couple of suggestions of what to put on your can’t miss list. It is such a vast expanse of land with so much history that if you want to spend time reading and learning there will be no way to see everything in depth. This is likely why the tickets to the site are good for 2 days and you can make use of the second day provided you arrange a way to get there.

The return trip had Mark telling ghost stories of tourists past. It was a good chuckle. The final photo op was spectacular.

In all, if you’re looking at spending the day mostly exploring on your own this is the tour for you.

Mark was an awesome tour guide, very knowledgeable with all of the details. Site was great to see but just thought there wasn’t enough to see there for the amount of time spent there.

Colin, our driver, gave an informative and interesting commentary on the way to Port Arthur. We had sufficient stops and photo opportunities. We had enough time at Port Arthur to take in all the important aspects. It was a really great day and we even enjoyed Colin’s jokes. Tasman’s arch in the way back was superb.
