As a working archaeologist at Pompeii, Eliana has an amazing knowledge of Pompeii. It was as if she were showing us her home. You could sense the respect the other tour guides had for her. Her passion was contagious. On the day of our tour, she brought us to a new excavation that has been being worked on for the past ten years. She got us there just before it was newly opened to the public and we were among the first people in history to see these amazing ruins. Due to her expertise, we were able to efficiently see many great things in a short amount of time. She was great at explaining life in Pompeii and answering our questions. Words cannot express how fortunate I felt to have her as our guide. If she has availability I highly recommend booking her.

Tour guide Tony was so smart, he showed us the features of the city and the preservation. He was fun and kind! We were fascinated by the houses, especially the largest one at the end.

Pompeii is an incredible city and what’s been uncovered is vast. We felt the only way to experience this amazing place was with someone with expertise so we researched guides who could take us through. Eliana Sandretti Company was highly rated on Trip Advisor. Eliana’s communication was excellent and she even suggested that we move our original time in the morning to noon to avoid larger crowds. When we arrived on the day Alessio, our private guide, met us at the entrance to introduce himself. Alessio, who is also an archaeologist, brought us to many of the major sites and described everything in interesting, storied detail. By the end of the 3 hour tour, we felt like we could almost imagine what life was like in Pompeii. We were left wanting to discover more of the city. We will return to Pompeii and we will ask for Alessio. Booking a private guide for the two of us felt like an extravagance at the time but now know it was well worth it.

We spent an interesting, full morning in May 2024 touring Pompei privately with Eliana Sandretti. She's immensely knowledgeable and engaging, and gave us a lively sense of how social, economic, political, and family structures played out in day-to-day life--we visited some of the standard stops, and some off the beaten track. Along the way we got into lots of side conversations about how archeologists work on the site, and especially how they work both to preserve it and to make it accessible. Through online interactions before and during our trip, Eliana also helped us plan our stay in Napoli and arrange transportation to and from Pompei, and after our tour she gave us very useful pointers how to use our time at the immense MANN aarcheology museum there. We recommend Eliana Sandretti most highly to anyone who wants to understand Pompei and how its inhabitants lived before the volcano erupted.

We had a wonderful experience on this tour with Eliana Sandretti, who is a certified archaeologist. Her insight on Pompeii is remarkable because she is one of the active archaeologist working there. Even though Eliana is a Ph.D., her discussion was easy to understand for the us laymen. She was most accommodating with our questions and stayed at each location on the tour as long as we wanted. We had a most enjoyable experience and highly recommend this tour! And by the way, we did skip the lines to enter Pompeii and those lines at each location within the site, which saved a lot of time!

I highly recommend this tour. It was amazing and we learned so much. Our guide was perfect and his love for Pompeii and knowledge was outstanding. He was kind and sweet as we were traveling with three kids (2 year old twins and a 6 year old). I had another tour scheduled and cancelled and I am so glad I did. He was perfect!!

This was a great tour. It’s amazing what has been discovered and preserved here. Our tour guide Mariagrazia was fantastic. We learned so much about the history of Pompeii and that there is still new discoveries every day. I highly recommend her.

Dr. Sandretti was a fantastic guide and teacher during this tour. Her impeccable guidance allowed us to have a truly personal experience, most of the time away from any crowds.
