Our guide was superb. He clearly explained the significance of the sights we were seeing and provided ample background information that gave us a good sense about life in ancient Roman times. Our time was well spent, we covered a lot of ground and came away with a very good understanding of Pompeii and its place in history. He is clearly a passionate and knowledgable scholar of Roman history. When we mentioned we were following up our visit to the ruins with a visit to the Naples Archeological Museum to see the frescos and artifacts he was able to draw additional references to what we were going to see to give context to the place and time of what we were seeing on-site. All in all a worthwhile and beneficial learning experience.

Our Guide thru Viator was amazing. We booked it ourselves and it was the best money we spent. Luciana was our guide and she is a native of Sorrento and grew up with Pompeii. Her knowledge of Pompeii and the artifacts and new discoveries was epic. We saw small details and got stories that only a seasoned Archeolgist and studied educator would know. We also had our 2 teenage daughters with us and she kept them enthralled the entire 3 hours. We did our tour on New Year’s Day so it was not crowded but her love of all things Pompeii was so apparent. We got VERY luck to have her. Highly recommend the $$ we spent on this..

The guide gave us a perfectly composed tour that led us to many interesting sites while avoiding crowds. She also adjusted the tour for the fact that one in the geoup had a foot injury. The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining.

Nearly booked a coach day trip from Rome but so glad we didn’t. Instead we caught the fast train to Naples then local train to Pompeii and enjoyed our very own private tour with Alessandro. The tour was fantastic and absolutely essential as without Alex explaining the history and stories we would have just been walking aimlessly around a pile of ruins. He brought the place to life and was able to answer all the challenging questions from our history buff daughter. I highly recommend booking your own personal tour for 3 hours.

Visiting Pompeii is an incredible experience, and our trip was taken to another level by our incredible guide, Alex. He was deeply knowledgeable about Pompeii, with many years of experience working there as an archeologist. He seemed to know every employee working there and, quite literally, every detail about the archeological site. (We asked many, many questions...and he answered every single one!)
Alex went above and beyond on our tour. He had an outline of a tour planned, but when we mentioned that we wanted to visit the Villa of the Mysteries after (it's worth the walk, by the way!), he modified the tour so that we ended up near the path to that Villa.
Also, we traveled with our newborn and had a lightweight stroller. Alex helped us navigate the old stone streets and find the best path for us to see all of the sights with the stroller (with that said, I would recommend checking a stroller and wearing your infant if you tour Pompeii).

Alex was a wonderful guide! He brought Pompeii and Herculaneum to life, explaining what we were seeing and how it fit into the life of the people living there. He answered all our questions and even delved deeper into subjects that interested us. His knowledge of the site was maxing. Totally recommend this tour for anyone that wants a more personal tour of a historical treasure.

We had a great tour with Eliana. Pompeii was amazing - 3 hours was just enough time to cover all of the basics. Eliana is beyond knowledgeable about Pompeii and so much more, she was able to educate us and compare Pompeii with other sites and history. It was so interesting to hear her personal story and connection to Pompeii, which really added to our fabulous day. Having a guide to ourselves rather than being in a big group really made the experience so much better.

We had a great tour with Francesco! After our train from Rome was late arriving, Francesco was very accommodating making sure we saw everything in enough time to catch our return train. Pompeii is very large and would be difficult to appreciate and navigate without a guide. It was interesting to learn about the different stores, houses, and other structures that existed and how Pompeii evolved over time.
