The tour guide will accompany you on a thrilling adventure around Pompeii, showing the characteristic features of the city such as the ‘Teatro Grande’ and the ‘Teatro Piccolo’, where you can hear the acoustic perfection of the auditorium – a feat which was achieved over two-thousand years ago; as well as a stroll down the principal street of commerce, a visit to the ‘pleasure domes’ and much more, before making the final stop at the main square (the Forum) – the focus of life in any Roman settlement. This experience will really immerse you in the domestic way of life in the Roman Empire!

In Herculaneum, you can enter the Roman houses and see some unique and extraordinary features such as the original doors, roof beams and the original furniture of the shops. The itinerary will also include the most popular place in the town - the thermal baths.

You can go from Pompeii to Herculaneum by circumvesuviana train or with your own car.

I would not recommend this tour. With no explanation in the confirmation we received, but reviews that they provided transportation, I wrote to them the night before the tour to confirm that they were helping us get from one site to another. The tour company wrote back that it was 10 minutes away, but they would not take us from one site to another, and sent two links in Italian that I couldn’t open. After the tour of Pompeii, the tour guide got on his scooter and left, pointing to the main entrance and told said to just take a taxi to Herculeum.
Unfortunately we tried desperately for over 30 minutes to get one but they were all pre booked by other tours. Our tour company must have known that but they left us in the lurch. Finally we found one empty taxi but had to pay 80 euros to have him transport us and the drive was 30 minutes long.
Also. The description of this tour is 4-6 hours, so we booked it hoping for a very comprehensive guide through the ruins. Despite that, the guide repeatedly mentioned two things, that he was expecting a tip, and that he would be leaving us at 2 pm (5 hours after the tour started).
Find a different tour company.

On our trip to Italy and Greece, this has been by far our favorite portion. Both Pompeii and Herculaneum are fascinating, and our guide, Italo, was superb. He was knowledgeable, personable, and able to adapt so that we could avoid crowded portions, without missing anything important. (You should ask for him by name, if you can!) Sure, the private tour is pricey on the surface, but we thought it was well worth the cost.

It’s a lot of walking, though. We took the train down to Pompeii from Naples, but there was a taxi near the restaurant we ate in after Herculaneum, so we paid and took it back into town. (If we hadn’t stopped for lunch, we probably would have been okay, but once we got off our feet and well fed, well, we just got too relaxed.)

We were extremely fortunate to have Rossana as our guide. She was profoundly knowledgeable, friendly and kind. We decided to spend the full day at Pompeii so that we could fully appreciate many of the details at Pompeii. Pompeii is a “must see” and Rossana was a delight.

Lello was an amazing guide, very informative and funny. We would never have understood as much about Pompeii without him.

Giovanna was the BEST guide, and Marco was the BEST driver. She shared some incredible insights, very knowledgeable, professional, pleasant and gentle demeanor. She pointed out the best parts of both of the ruins, and entertained all of the questions that we had. Found a good restaurant for us in Pompeii. All was fantastic.

My husband and I gave our tour guide Lello the nickname "El Rey de Pompeii", which is Spanish for "The King of Pompeii". Why? Lello knows anything and everything about the sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

From the get go, Lello was at the cafe early to meet us and gave us time to have a coffee and talk while we waited for the site to open. Once we started walking in, we noticed how popular and friendly Lello is. He knows EVERYONE and everyone knows him, it was like he was a rock star! I was excited to learn that Lello himself is an archaeologist, and he was able to talk about the sites in a very educational and passionate manner. My husband and I were enthralled with all the information and stories that Lello told us. Lello kept us engaged and gave the tour in a way that I felt as if I was transported back in time and could see how the Pompeiians and Herculaneum people lived their lives.

One of the things that I was nervous about before we started the tour was transportation from Pompeii to Herculaneum (it was our second day in Italy and we did not yet know how to navigate the trains and metro), but Lello transported us between the sites with his vehicle which was extremely helpful! Additionally, we traveled from Rome to Pompeii just for this tour. We had a very early morning in order to jump on a train and take the taxi to Pompeii, but I would do it again just so I can take another tour by Lello!

Another thing I was nervous about was the weather--I had checked the weather beforehand and it was supposed to be raining all day. Luckily, the weather was perfect! I asked Lello if he normally gives tours in the rain, and he said that he will give tours rain or shine!

We had a wonderful guide and that makes the experience even more interesting and enjoyable. Giovanna is a archaeologist and she brough Pompeii and Herculaneum to life for us. Her explanations of Roman life 2000 years ago were fascinating and informative. She had a lovely, bubbly personality and we had a thoroughly enjoyable day with her.
