Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is the first and only ethical elephant sanctuary in Phuket where elephants roam around, bathe and sozialize freely across 30 acres of lush, tropical land bordering the Khao Phra Thaeo National Park in North East Phuket. We buy all rescued elephants to ensure that Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is their final home, and we offer professional veterinary care for old and injured elephants. By visiting us, you are supporting a sustainable, ethical and compassionate approach to elephant tourism where elephants have the freedom to live naturally. National Geographic, Lonely Planet and The Guardian have all endorsed our ethical approach.

a must do experience in thailand. it is difficult but necessary to hear about the abuse that happens to elephants in riding camps and other tourist attractions. this sanctuary is doing great work rescuing elephants from these terrible conditions and letting them live out their lives in peace. you will not be bathing or riding elephants here, but you do get to feed them. the park is beautiful on its own, and learning about the different elephants and how they came to arrive at the park is sad, but knowing they are happy now makes it worthwhile.

the 90 min tour really is more like 2.5 hours from the time you arrive at the sanctuary (not the office) and return to the office. first you drive in a truck to the sanctuary (about 10 min). then you are have some time to grab light breakfast drinks & snacks before the initial presentation of how the sanctuary came to be. next you'll feed the elephants before heading into the sanctuary to walk above and alongside the elephants. the walk alone is about 75 minutes. then there is the specialty drink and more small snacks available before you truck back to the office.

the tour and our guide were really great, just know to plan for min. 2.5 hours for the shorter tour and not 90 min.

if you are going to an elephant "sanctuary" that has you bathing with an elephant it is not a true ethical sanctuary. this park is a true sanctuary, these elephants are not performing tricks for entertainment other than eating food they would already be eating.

Just do this one, skip the others were the elephants are used and abused. You can tell the elephants here are relaxt, while in most other places they are stressed out.

I just wrote a more solid review, but TripAdvisor made me do it again. Too bad, not doing it.

It’s a good place though, they treat the elephants the right way. Elephants run the show, not the other way around.

Keep up the good work guys!

TripAdvisor; do better please. I’m not an author.

Ps; didn’t take a lot of picture, just check their website. It’s as advertised. Their pictures are better then mine.

Very nice experience. Prompt pick up by safe driver in vip van, easy check-in and very nice guide. Plus feeding and seeing the elephants up close was perfect. Time spent balanced well with the experience we had. Excellent value!

Excellent structure - starts with snacks, and then you walk on these sturdy canopies to see the rescued elephants. much context is given and you also get to feed them close up. ends with snacks and mock tails. great for couples and families!

This was by far one of my favorite experiences in Thailand! We did our research to find a location that was ethical, and we were pleased to see how well the elephants were respected and taken care of. We got to feed the elephants some fruit, then we walked through the sanctuary to observe them in their natural habitat. Our tour guide was kind and knowledgeable.
