I was expecting to participate in a cooking class. There were 11 participants. The classroom had enough work stations if we worked as couples. Unfortunately they only had 4 stations set up. I'm guessing that's because they only had 2 instructors. We ended up watching more than doing as everyone had to have a turn at doing at least one thing. I was expecting more hands on and didn't get it.

We came after a recommendation from a friend to attend a cooking class abroad. Great value for money, as we anticipated only cooking the pastel de nata, but we also made traditional cod fish fitters, which were very tasty. The people and instructors were very friendly. We particularly enjoyed how the lesson linked to the history of the dishes, and gave some insight into Portuguese cooking techniques. The pastel de natas were the best we had on the holiday, and we indulged in several! The fish fitters were also very delicious and we left reasonably well fed. Would have maybe liked it to be a bit more hands on, however this in no way took away from our enjoyment of the experience, and was understandable within the two hour time frame. The equipment provided was professional and the environment was conducive to the number of people that attended. Would highly recommend a cooking class when away, as it greatly increases your understanding of the local culture and cuisine.

A very fun cooking class. Ana and Marta were excellent instructors and gave us a lot of helpful information, tips, and historical and cultural background. We made cod fritters in addition to the pastel de Nata, both of which were delicious. Not sure that I can undertake the task of making the pastry dough in the future (a multi step process of maybe 15 hours) but it was fun to learn how these delicious treats are made. We are still enjoying our creations a couple of days later! Take this class, you won’t regret it!!

This is an absolute must do if you’re in Lisbon! The teachers were so friendly and helpful and they were more than happy to make changes/accommodations for dietary requirements. We ended up getting to make two different recipes and also learnt a lot about the history and modern culture of Portuguese food. Thank you Compadre Cooking School for an awesome experience!

Wonderful small group cooking class. We made one savoury dish. Cod fritters, and then the most glorious Pastel De nata's that we ate fresh from the oven. A wonderful experience to enjoy with friends.

The instructors were knowledgeable, friendly, and energetic. Learning to make pastel de nata was what we signed up for, but it was such a treat to have the added bonus of making cod fritters. The facility was clean and very professional looking, and we had a great time!
