The Northern Lights tour from Reykjavík takes you to see a spectacular natural phenomenon which happens during the winter months. The Northern Lights, also known as Aurora Borealis, are caused by the interaction of particles from the sun with the upper atmosphere near the North Pole. Northern Lights in Iceland are visible during the winter months, from September to April.

It’s important to stay warm when you’re out in the dark gazing up at the sky, which is why freshly-baked waffles and hot beverages are available for sale on site. Add some heartwarming comfort to an already amazing experience.*

*Waffles and hot beverages are only available on the 21:00 and 22:00 departures.

We enjoyed the trip and met some great people from different parts of the world. The tour guide was informative. It wasn't a great night for the lights, so we knew it was a gamble, but we were told we'd stay in the car park viewing spot until 11.30/midnight. We were suddenly whisked away home at 11.20pm... then by chance someone on the bus spotted the lights on the horizon, so the bus pulled in to watch them. We were disappointed because if we'd stayed where we were, we'd have seen them a lot better and within the time frame originally given!
A darker location would be better.

As soon as we got in the coach the guide said that there was very little chance of seeing the lights. So I think they should have cancelled the tour. She also said queuing to get on main coach snd for tickets was all part the experience ! We waited a long time for the coaches to get sorted .. over an hour from our hotel pick up to actually setting off on tour ( snd ours was a very close hotel to the coach depot ) … there were 15 coaches all with about 54 people on ..so 750 people … all paying £66 approx each … so if you are making £45000 you are going to go if there is the slightest chance of seeing the lights …. They took us for an hour to a car park .. where we could experience the quiet etc … with 750 other people … and it was -17 degrees. We didn’t see the lights . The next day they did and yes we could have gone again for free… but we did the golden circle tour the next day ( which was fab but caught in a snow storm and so we were late back and getting more or less straight back on another coach for another try was not an option for us ). One thing they could have done was have a camera expert there who could try to capture images . The guide did see a line of green through her camera and waved it at the front of the coach … but no one except in the front row would have seen it. An expensive waste of money . Suggest you get a bus to the lighthouse and try to see the lights from there.

The tour guide and driver were amazing, the bus was clean and the tour was well organised.
It was very cold with no shelter from the elements, so dress super warm.
The tour runs very early-2100-2330. Didn’t catch them
The first night but the second night on the way back from the tour the bus pulled over because they spotted the lights.
All in all I would recommend, only downside would be to start it later into the night.

On the first northern lights tour we unfortunatly didn't see them. But we could rebook it for free. On the next evening we were guided by the lovely Mishka. She was very kind and funny. We were already on our way back without seeing the northern lights when suddenly they appeared! The bus managed the make a stop on a smaller road so we could get out and take pictures. It was wonderful! A big thank you to Mishka and her driver!!!!

2/6. I booked a small guided tour with my daughter last night, our tour guide was a woman , forget her name sadly, who was very knowledgeable and pleasant, she showed us exactly where to look and you could tell she enjoyed her time as a tour guide. The spot was great and dark the lights just were not bright enough to the naked eye. Cameras did pick up the light so she said we could rebook because we technically didn’t see any color, well I’m so happy that I gave it one more shot before returning to the US later today because at midnight as our tour bus was headed back to Reykjavik he announced, guide Niccolo fluent in Spanish English French , look to the left and you can see some northern lights….and boom! It started!! I couldn’t believe it was happening. The tour bus driver was kind and thoughtful enough to find a safe spot to stop so we could get a chance to see…we hoped out of the bus and it was a beautiful big green arc!! Had the bus driver not stopped and the tour guide niccolo not been alert we would have missed a once in a lifetime moment. Thank you so much for an unforgettable night! Niccolo was funny and knowledgeable I highly recommend booking with this company!

A good tour - good guide, good bus, good all round. The presence of a waffle truck on site was a nice surprise. It was cold as hell, but then again, that's Iceland in January.

Unfortunately the northern lights trip was cancelled due to the weather. It was very disappointing as we were only able to go on that specific night. Reykjavik excursions did provide me with a refund within 4 days.
