My husband and I ended up with a private tour by Santos on our 10-year anniversary trip because no one else signed up. We loved having our own guide and being able to set our own pace. But the tour would be fun with a group too. It was challenging, but we are not regular mountain bikers (or super young and in shape) and we completed the trek just fine. Santos was great!

Great trip. Guide was patient and helpful and brilliant at spotting wildlife. Interesting excursion into a local school! Unfortunately no river crossing!

Definitely mountain biking! Was more than what we had expected but a lot of fun. Hills up and down and lots of rocks. 2 of our 4 bailed out on the way back since we were a little nervous mountain biking with the hills - we are very good bike riders - just not used to the terrain. Had a boat pick us up and met up with the rest of the group at the end. Guide - Santos - was great! Definitely recommended if you like mountain biking!

This tour was a great way to begin a first day in Fortuna/Arenal. Mauricio provided us with history and facts about Costa Rica that enabled us to appreciate the area more. The ride was challenging, yet fun and provided amazing views each step of the way. Gilroy who drove the van behind us assisted us with water if we needed! I would definitely recommend this as a must do tour on your first day visiting the Fortuna region. Pura Vida!

Rolling hills, farmland, epic views of Arenal!? Amazing!! I’ve been here in La Fortuna for 3 weeks and this is probably the best thing I’ve done so far.
This company Desafío also has amazing mountain bikes in great shape that make going uphill smooth like butter. Santos, our guide, was amazing and made sure we were at a good pace and took water breaks. It’s hard work but worth it. Recommended for people who are in relatively good shape. You will not regret this tour.

Awesome! We felt like we got a great workout (but could easily be modified to suit any biking ability) and really loved the views. Our guide was fantastic and pointed out different wildlife along the way. Water bottles were provided, and we even got the option to swim in Arenal lake at the end of the trip. Bring sunblock!

We did the new mountain bike trail 22km around Lake Aernal plenty of challenging terrain, this in not a moderate bike ride. We were the first group to complete the entire 22km. the views of the lake and volcano are beautiful, well worth the effort.
