Our guide, Ramon, was excellent. The tour started the moment we got in the car as he pointed out different sites on the way and explained the different faces of the mountains as they came into view. He imparted a great amount of information and made sure we got to see everything including the Boys Choir and we had time to ride the funicular for even more views.
He also provided some general information about Barcelona and made recommendations of places to eat and other sites to see.

Our tour operator was In and Out Barcelona Tours and our guide was Javi. He was excellent- made sure everyone in the small group got to do what they wanted when we arrived at Montserrat and explained the significance of several items in the sanctuary and around the area. We really enjoyed this tour!

Javi was our guide. He was amazing and informative. Even though it rained, the trip was wonderful. Javi told our tour all the information about the Monastery. It truly was a remarkable experience

His knowledge of the area, its people, geography and long history was evident as was his love of Catalan culture. Montserrat is an arresting place, steeped in spirituality and mysticism. Ramon provided excellent insight into the symbolism and meanings of the layout and structure of the church compound. And you will learn of the important connections between Montserrat and the Sagrada Familia; but that is for Ramon to explain! Great guide. Enjoyable adventure.

Overall, we were disappointed with the tour despite the beautiful location.
Positives:
- Our guide (Javi) was very polite and professional
- The hotel pick-up was right on time and very convenient and the air conditioned van was comfortable
- The guide provided very helpful Barcelona related food & restaurant suggestions
Negatives:
- The tour description is somewhat deceiving. It includes ‘an opportunity to appreciate the Black Madonna statue’ but in reality you only get to observe the small statue from -200’ away. Most of our group was surprised and disappointed; look for another tour option if you want to approach the statue.
- Similarly, the tour description did not clearly outline that you drive up to Montserrat and that you don’t have the option of taking the cogwheel train or funicular up to the town. The funicular mentioned in the tour description was a different funicular to go further up the mountain ( worth doing for the views)
- Finally, while our guide seemed very knowledgeable you didn’t get much information from him unless you asked questions. There were introductory comments at a few locations but we were mostly left to fend for ourselves for 90% of the tour. Similarly, he engaged the two passengers in the front seat throughout the drive to the site and back but barely spoke to or engaged the other six passengers in the van during the - 2 hours of driving. It was probably the least informative tour that we’ve taken in our travels.
All in all the tour is a good option if you want a convenient taxi service to Montserrat village and a speedy visit but it misses the mark if you’re looking for any details, context or an opportunity to really appreciate the site (e.g. no cogwheel, funicular, ability to approach the Black Madonna, etc.).

This tour was amazing! Eduard is very knowledgeable and show us around the monastery. The van was very confortable and the drive was smooth, he pick us up from the hotel and brought us back, very convenient.

The monastery and the Montserrat mountain area are absolutely stunning. Unfortunately we went on a rainy day and it was freezing cold and wet. Our guide is nice but he did not explain too many of the details after we arrived at the monastery. There were only 4 people in our group and our guide just let us roamed around. Luckily there was a museum and we killed our time seeing some interesting paintings and artifacts.
