Experience stunning scenery on an unforgettable day trip to Milford Sound.
The pristine Milford Sound is part of the World Heritage Fiordland National Park, in the south west of the South Island, and is famed for its remote atmosphere and rugged beauty. It is New Zealand’s best known fiord and the only one that can be reached by road. Maori are believed to have discovered Milford Sound more than 1,000 years ago, returning seasonally to collect the prized pounamu (greenstone). In the early 1800s John Grono was the first European settler to land in the sound, which he named after Milford Haven in Wales.
Described by Rudyard Kipling as the 'eighth wonder of the world', Milford Sound was carved by glaciers during the ice ages. Milford Sound is breathtaking in any weather. Cliffs rise high into the air from the dark waters, mountain peaks scrape the sky and waterfalls cascade downwards, some as high as 1000 metres.

We did the day trip from Queenstown to Milford Sound and back. It was a scenic drive with appropriate breaks and stops for photos and sightseeing. The journey was completed safely and on scheduled time both ways. This was thanks mainly to the driver/tour guide, Shailendra, who kept things going at the right pace and gave us an insightful commentary, which was both informative and light-hearted.
The only comment I would like to make based on this experience is that the passengers need to be allocated seats on these tours. This could help prevent spreading out of individual members of a certain group/family in the bus to grab window seats and making it difficult for passenger couples getting on later in the bus to find a seat together. Appropriate seat allocation can also allow opening of back door of the bus to make entry and exit easier for passengers.

The bus driver was very knowledgeable about the park, Milford Sound and New Zealand. We made several stops along the way. If you get car sick take something. Rainy day on the cruise so visibility not the best but lots of waterfalls. The crew on the cruise were very friendly, took photos of you and free hot chocolate!

Our bus trip although long was enjoyable and we were able to take in what was around us, our bus driver David was very experienced,funny and knowlegible , the boat experience was fun enjoying with friends

Fantastic experience. Very entertaining coach driver and incredible scenery. Milford Sound was gorgeous. Route is pretty wobbly, if prone to motion sickness, be prepared. We opted to fly back from Milford Sound to Queenstown with Glenorchy Air and it was the best money spent. The pilots were super friendly and the views were extraordinary. It also got us back a few hours ahead of the coach so we had more of the day to enjoy.

David our bus driver was so knowledgeable about the history of the route down to Milford. The 5 hours there and back were great actually as we had some lovely stops to see scenery and learnt a lot from David! The boat trip was the most amazing experience of my life and was the perfect amount of time! The skipper was very knowledgeable too and willing to answer questions about anything! We saw seals, fish and penguins and I have nothing bad to say! Best day ever!

Paid for and confirmed with Viator. Given a time and place for pick up. Arrived at destination at 6.55am and waited for an hour while buses came and went not reading our names out. After phoning the tour operator they told us they let Viator know that it was fully booked and they should not have confirmed booking with us. Viator customer service just apologized for inconvenience, which was pretty rubbish response. Lost a whole day of touring and had to get up and wait around like an idiot on a bus that was never coming. Unlikely to book with Viator again.
