We will take you to the summit of Mauna Kea to see the sunset and we will do stargazing afterward (not at the summit). Our most unique part is that our guides will take the photo of the sunset and stars for you using their DSLR camera.
All photos are free of charge and you will get it to your smartphone at the end of the tour.

Fantastic experience. We experienced a beautiful sunset on the clouds and great stargazing stop. It was mesmerizing.
I wish the stargazing stop was a bit longer.

When we reached visitor center we waited for about 45 minutes to get acclimated. I did feel shortness of breath but after some time it subsided. We continued on and once we reached summit it was well worth the shortness of breath and lightheaded. The view was spectacular and I was in awe with the beautiful sunset. Stargazing was great, we got to see Uranus through a telescope and some star constellations and tail end of the milky way.
Great experience and will do it again!

Wes was a great tour guide who is also trilingual. He did a great job talking explaining the local culture and history on the way to our destination. The final stargazing place was also unique and excellent.

It was cloudy at the bottom, but clear above the lower clouds. I enjoyed being on top of everything, surrounded by the top-level academic facilities, and thousands or millions of stars. Drive was pleasant. Sandwich was tasty. Clothes were warm. Guide was kind.
My only (huge) regret was that I couldn't receive my photos with sunset and stars, via email. If your phone is an iphone or has some functionality (which I didn't understand), there is no problem. But if you ask to send them through email, you should check that you definitely got them, before you leave.

Our trip was wonderful. Our guide Joseph was very accommodating with all our requests. The scenery was amazing the sunset was one of the best we've seen (even from Mt Rainier)
If you are up there to only take pictures and videos and not just see with your eyes you will probably have a bad time fighting with everyone else for walking into each other's shots.
Our favorite part was people watching the visitors that came up totally unprepared in skirts dresses flip flops short shorts and tank tops ? it's 30°F up at the summit so please dress accordingly.
There are many sacred areas near the summit that you are told by your guides not to step into and to not take anything from the mountain.
After the sunset we drove a bit down to an observation post to stargaze as the researchers at the observatory had some work that particular night.
We got to enjoy some hot coco with a fun class to show us which constellations were visible with a very cool green Lazer and even a telescope to see Saturn's rings.
Very wonderful experience and while yes some may say that you can rent a 4x4 car and go up the road themselves we saw a few cars having difficulty coming back down the mountain and the park rangers will sometimes only let tour guides drive up if conditions aren't favorable such as heavy fog as they do this tour daily and could probably do it blindfolded by now.

This was a great activity. The directions for the pickup spot were super clear. Our driver wasn't real chatty, but we got all the important information we needed about the trip and the summit activities. We drove up to 9k feet where we acclimated and had a sandwich. Then we headed up to 13,800 feet to watch the sunset. We were provided with parkas (definitely needed). It was a real treat. After that we headed down to 12k feet where they gave us a star gazing 'tour' and hot chocolate. Before we left there they took pictures of each group/person/couple with the stars in the background.
