We are sitting at intermission right now. This is the STRANGEST show that we have ever paid admission for.

There are two musicians (we think) that seem very talented, but they are behind a screen, they are not on the stage, they COULD be a tape recording.

They are singing Hawaiian songs. For about three songs they had a local girl do a vague dance with very nice hand motions suggesting waves and sunshine.

I feel like I am back at the cloistered Abby that adjoined my property where I grew up. Very talented singers, they might be playing instruments, but they are hidden from view.

The young girls have gone home. We will see what the 2nd half brings, but as of the first half, this seems like a corporate-run major rip-off.

More later...

The Hawaiian hula and fire dancers were excellent.

Sadly, they were let down by the poor organisation. It was advertised as a two hour show (5pm-7pm) and that guests should arrive early, as any late comers wouldn’t be admitted. At 5.45pm I asked the doorman for a program, to try and ascertain what was meant to be happening, as up until that point two men ( hidden behind a screen) played guitar and sang for some of the time. Between 5pm-5.30pm , a solo dancer performed to three of their songs. Judging by the non verbals between the dancer and guitarist ( I could see them behind the screen as I had arrived early as instructed and was right at the front) they were also wondering what was meant to be happening. Between 5.30pm-5.45pm, nothing happened at all ( music or dancing). Guests were left looking at an empty concrete stage, with the exception of normally clothed people drifting around the stage and disappearing behind the screens. This was when I asked what as happening, as quite frankly I was about to leave.
I was advised that the show started ‘proper ‘at 5.45pm ( which it did) and that what had preceded had been the ‘warm up’.
The excellent Hawaiian dancers raised the mood, the host tried to do this by asking the audience to stand up and ‘give ourselves a shake’ to animate ourselves ( perhaps she didn’t realise that we’d already been waiting at least 45 minutes ‘in the dark’).
The performance finished very promptly at 6.45pm, making it an hour long show, not the two hour show that was advertised.

10/ 10 for the hard working dancers and musicians
Zero for the lack of organisation or professionalism.

My family wanted to experience the dances of the Islands, but a Luau is so expensive on Maui. I was thrilled when I came across this show. It's in a great location and with Food trucks near by you are able to eat during the performance. Bring your own blanket or beach chair to sit on or sit at the picnic tables or benches that are provided. The show is laid back and probably doesn't have all the bells and whistles that those expensive Luau have, but this setting and type of show was exactly what I was looking for. I was glad to know I was supporting the local economy and not a corporation as well.

Got there about 430, grabbed some awesome food from the food trucks and found a spot at a picnic table.
Found the performance actually very educational and the performers were amazing. So much chiller than a big hotel production and we loved the vibe.

This was a very family friendly hula dance show. Bringing beach chairs is a good idea, and plan to get dinner at the food trucks next to the gardens. They have good vegetarian options.

The show was low-key which was perfect for our family. I've been to luau's before and the food/drink was not ideal, so I appreciated the versatility of the food trucks. There was more than enough space for my 4-year old daughter to dance around to the music, and enough room for my 1 year-old to run around. We appreciated the information and introduction to each of the dance styles of Polynesia. The dancers and emcee were fantastic. I would definitely recommend to families and anyone interested in a more low-key setting for a luau.
