Great day from start to finish!! Beautiful drive along the lake in a fun backcountry style 4WD. Our guide, Erin, was fun, informative, and a good driver. Great blend of pointing out LOTR sites, scenery stops, an a fun stop in the woods for tea/coffee while we donned hooded cloaks and played with a variety of LOTR swords. A high point for all LOTR nerds!! Afternoon was super fun 4WD trekking---fording streams and panning for gold!! Again, Erin did a great job. Fun for all ages!!

Our guide Erin was just wonderful. She made this trip to one of our Highlights during our new zealand travel. She brought us to many film locations and had a lot of background information about the film. We also could enjoy a search for gold in the arrow river in the afternoon and got a lot of information about the area besides the film topic.

We would totally recommend it! Thanks Erin for that perfect day!

Our tour with Nomad Safaris was one of the best things we did in New Zealand! Jono, our guide was so personable, knowledgable, and a great AWD vehicle operator. We got to see so many locations from Lord of the Rings and had a great time seeing the amazing scenery along the way. The tea/cake stops were a fun touch as well as the panning for gold. We had an AMAZING day.

This was definitely a great tour, seeing as it was able to encompass everything Lord Of The Rings around Queenstown + Arrowtown, along with Glenorchy, Paradise and Beyond. Justin (morning tour guide) and Peter (afternoon tour guide) were very knowledgeable around where scenes were filmed, even brought out props and made us laugh a load.

Our guide and driver Fiona was simply amazing! She had an extensive knowledge of the behind-the-scenes of Lord of the Rings and her driving skills were top-notch. As devoted fans of LOTR, we had an incredible time exploring Queenstown, Arrowtown, and Glenorchy. We were thrilled to have found this fantastic fellowship that allowed us to experience adventure and breathtaking views with minimal effort. The cherry on top was the 4WD river ride that gave us an exhilarating Indiana Jones-like experience. While it may not be suitable for everyone, we loved every moment of it and even went for an encore ride! So sit back, relax, and immerse yourself in the stories. For one day, leave the real world behind and enter Middle Earth with this unforgettable tour.

We are true LOTR fans and our was great to see some of the actual spots the Frodo and Sam would've stood. This was also a great way to see the areas around lake Wakatipu, Arrowtown, Queenstown and Glenorchy.

The morning of our tour was spent in Glenorchy, with our guide Gilly. She was obviously a big lord of the rings fan and very informative about the filming locations in the area. We really enjoyed talking to her and being surrounded by the beautiful scenery - it definitely felt like we were in middle earth! We also really enjoyed the 4WD aspect as we were able to cross fords and access more remote areas. The ability to dress up as lord of the rings characters was definitely an entertaining addition to the morning. Although the full day tour is really quite expensive, we felt that this half was good value for money.

The afternoon portion was a bit different. For a tour that was advertised as a lord of the rings tour there were only very brief mentions of the films at all. Also, our guide seemed to have very little interest or knowledge in the films and seemed to have only memorised a few basic facts. He even mentioned that he had only taken us to one of the filming locations of the river bruinen and if we wanted to see the other "we should have asked". We though that given we had booked a lord of the rings tour, wanting to visit filming locations would have been a given! Also, we were joined by another customer who had never watched lotr and was on a 'wakitipu basin tour' which furthered our frustration. There were elements of the tour which were cool, such as goldpanning in the arrow river and shotover canyon, however we didn't realise when we booked that some of these locations had nothing to do with lotr. Our guide also seemed to lose interest in us almost as soon as the other customer entered the car, and they spent most of the tour discussing business opportunities and personal stories. For such an expensive tour which turned out to be so different from that which was advertised, and undertaken by such an unprofessional guide, we were very disappointed with the afternoon experience - if we had wanted a wakitipu basin tour we would have booked one! I hope the company take this and other similar reviews seriously. These tours are expensive, and there are many fans that come to queenstown are let down by misinformation and poor guides.

Morning = 5/5

Afternoon = 1/5
