Sooner or later while visiting Lisbon you’ll end up strolling in the Baixa and Chiado neighborhood, the Downtown of the Portuguese capital. For more than two centuries that’s where everything has happened including political conspiracies, religious processions, intellectual get-togethers and outrageous art performances. After a ravaging fire 30 years ago, Baixa and Chiado experienced a striking renaissance and are now again a lively area - the area with the greater concentration of fancy shops, innovative coffee shops and cool restaurants. Through this comprehensive walking tour (3h-4h) you’ll discover some incredible addresses, while you get acquainted with amazing and insightful stories on the more cosmopolitan district in Lisbon.

Our guide had great knowledge of the city, it's history and architecture. He was very kind to us for not making long exhausting walks and having informative stops. It was a great way to end our trip to Lisbon.

There are many general walking tours of Lisbon, but Luis' tour was different and very special and interesting. He began with some history, but then took that knowledge and began showing us the nuances of the city - why do the buildings look the way they do. Who used to live on each floor. Why do the sidewalks look a certain way, the tiles on the buildings and their meaning. He showed up many storefronts (old shops, bookstores, wine shops, etc) and explained what they used to be and showed us the evidence still visible outside. Luis had a folder that contained historic photos. When we would walk to a square, he would show you what it used to look like. Our tour was just me and my mother - this is not a tour with a large group - it's personalized. I would absolutely recommend this tour.

Luis was a fantastic walking tour guide. He told us about all the cool nuances about buildings, architecture, tiles on the ground, tiles on the buildings and store-fronts. He knew which stores used to be other things and could show you the decorative evidence. He explained WHY the buildings in Lisbon look the way they do and who used to live on each floor. He had a folder with him and would show us historic pictures of what an area used to look like. Finally, he was very cognizant of the walking with an older person in the group. He choose routes that did not have drastic inclines and walked at a reasonable pace. He made our stay in Lisbon SO much better - we left feeling like "insiders"!
