This unique tour takes you to explore the beautiful landscapes of Yucatan. We will take you to Las Coloradas, a set of pink lagoons located in Rio Lagartos, where you will enjoy a boat ride through the mangrove area, nest of a variety of birds and marine species, including the popular pink flamenco who have made of this site the perfect place to nest and give birth to their young.

We've taken several private tours with this company and had booked Sian Ka'an but were notified a few days prior that it was not available to go to (no explanation as to why provided). We opted for Rio Lagartos as it was one of their only private excursions we hadn't yet done.

With the last minute change and the busy holiday time we didn't do any research so we weren't aware that the flamingos are seasonal to when they're mating. We only saw a handful from pretty far away while on the boat portion of the tour, nothing at all like the volume in the photos on their website.

Our driver was Randalfo and our guide Alberto. Both were very nice and accommodating although most of our tour we were with others (one guide at Las Coloradas & another on the the boat). In the van we've suggested in the past, and will do so again, there should be a diet soda selection and since it is a private tour a nice touch would be to ask ahead our beverage preferences. We could've used a few more waters and diet soda throughout the long day.

The pink lakes portion features Spanish speaking guides, English ones are an up charge. We were given a Spanish only speaker initially but Alberto was able to switch us to an English speaker. We enjoyed the 45 minute easy stroll, learning about the reserve and seeing the pink water. There were lots of photo ops and Mario accommodated. The boat captain was equally accommodating although his English was sketchy so we didn't understand all of what he was saying and vice versa. On the water we saw pelican and crocodile up close as he had bait for them and lots of beautiful spoonbills, herons, etc. We thoroughly enjoyed the hour plus we were out on the water.

Finished up with lunch at an authentic place in town (Alberto had given us the option of there or near Valladolid where we'd been several times).

The nice part about this tour was staying dry as most feature a combination of sites and cenote swimming. It's a low key yet enjoyable day. Would suggest anyone looking to go on the tour to try to do so during mating times if possible to get the optimal experience.

We're just waiting on a refund of the difference between the tour we originally booked which was more expensive than the one we took.
