Museum is very well placed out , the signage is easy to read and very informative. Definitely take your children here if you are in the area. A nice, quiet reprieve from the Disney loudness.

Very poor, not much to see really. It doesn't take longer than 15mins to go round the museum. Definitely isn't worth the price tag of $15 each. It is not a very exciting museum and some of it was not open (like the atrium because of the rain). The outdoor tar pit is free to visit but not much to see. It is interesting to know what was found in the pits but I've been to much better museums and would not recommend this one! My son who is 4 was bored!

We had to stay in LA for a night on way back from Baja California in Mexico. Our AirBnB host tried to persuade us to do excursions for that day to the Hollywood sign etc but that is NOT our thing. So, looked up and as observatory only opens at noon- our first choice for the day, and it is far from airport where we had to book in at 3pm for our flight home, decided to try La Brea Tar pits and we are really glad that we did.
There is lots to do here. We started outside which is free and so much to see and read and learn. I had no idea about so much. We then went inside and great watching volunteers working on fossils and the displays were great. The time line of the planet and the short amount of time man has been here really made an impression.
I thoroughly recommend it here.

Amazing that this exists in the middle of a bustling city. You could smell an oil smell slightly and see the bubbling up. To see an active dig was amazing as well.

Considering we had been to LA so many times before, we had never visited the La Brea Tarpits. Firstly – parking here is SUPER expensive for only a couple of hours visit, find parking on 6th street for free! We paid our entrance fee and upgraded to the 3D movie.

We then proceeded to a guided tour, which we were told would finish 10mins or so before the start of the movie. Our tour guide, Becca, was incredibly good, very knowledgeable and gave a fantastic tour, and we learnt a lot and were encouraged to ask lots of questions. If you don’t want to do the tour, there are lots of information boards around the museum for reading and learning. The tour ran over, and we got to our show late and had to be rebooked. The girls at the cinema entrance failed to understand when we said can we simply wait to one side to see if anyone doesn’t show rather than having to rebook and wait around…..they simply refused which we thought was rude and unhelpful. Anyway, we later got to see the show – and take our advice, don’t pay the $6 extra, it really isn’t worth it, with only small elements of the show being 3D and the show being nothing more than a National Geographic episode. Overpriced and not worth it, this really should be included as part of the ticket price!

Overall, we enjoyed the visit, seeing the palaeontologists working up close was also cool, and the smell of the tar really elevated the whole experience. The inside museum was also cool, with a huge number of fossils on display. Sadly, we visited the gift shop, but the prices were sky high, so we simply left.

We enjoyed our visit, and would recommend to all ages, very interesting experience!

We got a lot from the mini videos and the docent tour outside. Becca was an engaging enthusiastic educator. Mindblowing prehistoric facts and hard to imagine right from the middle of LA!
