The ice cave was amazing. I've been to ice caves in Akaska and on the Alps; this one is unique because it is located in a volcano and so the surrounding is not covered in snow, making the landscape and view very different from the other ice caves I've seen.
However, this trip might be difficult, even frightening, for people that are not used to outdoor activities. The description of the trip make it sounds like the ice cave is easily accessible, but that's not the case. You have to walk up a very steep hill, and back. Most part of the trail is narrow, and you are walking by the edges. The worst part is the tour guide is very used to the landscape so he went very fast, making it very pressuring for people at the back. I was struggling to catch my breath, not fall, and catch up with the tour guide. I would not recommend it to people who does not like outdoor activities or are afraid of heights.

The ice cave tour itself was short compared to the travel but so well worth it! Absolutely fun and breathtaking! Plus both our cave tour guide and driver from Reykjavik were fun, knowledgeable and all around amazing! Highly recommend.

It was incredible from start to finish. Our tour guide Vjeran put us at ease with his wit and charm, and made sure we got the most out of every single stop, including some amazing photos. The waterfalls were unreal, so so magical! And the ice caves were unreal. 100% recommend!!

Incredible experience! We booked the tour from the Vik pick up/drop off. It was an easy meeting point to find. From there we got in small vans and went to the ice cave. Our tour guide gave us wonderful background info throughout the drive and the walk. It was a very manageable hike to get to the cave. The terrain is so cool. The caves are beautiful. It is such a unique experience that I would highly recommend to others!

My family and I went to Iceland and London on spring break and this tour was the highlight of our trip. Everyone agreed that we will cherish the memories from hiking on the glacier and walking into the ice cave. Although it was cold, windy, and snowy during our adventure, we had a blast! Our guide Siggi was friendly, outgoing, and very knowledgeable. He helped my 73-year old dad feel confident while hiking. Highly recommend this tour for anybody wanting to see the ice cave!

We had a WONDERFUL time! Vjeran shared awesome Icelandic history and troll stories during the van ride to Vik, and immediately set the tone for fun! He showed us three spectacular waterfalls and also gave us lots of practical tips about where to get food and drinks. We then travelled to the ice caves with Siggi, who is a geologist and shared a clear love of Iceland’s natural wonders. The ice caves were definitely a highlight of the trip: stunning, other worldly and somehow approachable! Spectacular all around!

Short: I don’t recommend doing this trip from Reyjavik at all. Only do from Vik and do early in the day. Didn’t get home till past midnight. Lots of people missed northern lights tours. Bring your own torch.

Long: We didn’t get home till past midnight.
Most exhausting tour I’ve ever been on.
Tour started at 9am from Reykjavik. Didn’t get on a super jeep till gone 4pm. Ridiculous!

We were transported from Reykjavik and the guide just kept saying delay after delay with jeep company. When we got to Vik around 2pm we were told to well just come back in a few hours!

When we finally got on the super jeep - it broke down! And we had to wait for rescue on the glacier as it was getting dark. I thought at that point there was no way they’d actually take us to the ice cave now as we were losing light.

Finally a new jeep turned up and took us to the start of the walk to the ice cave. Helmets provided. Crampons only provided later. NO TORCHES.

Fortunately we had our own crampons for the initial hike to the start of the ascent to the caves. But lots of the other guests kept falling over and slipping so I felt quite fortunate to have them.

The no head lamp/ torch thing was bizarre. The guide shone their torches ahead but really hard to see if not with the guide eg in middle or back. Lots of us using our phones for light. Can see in the other comments similar reviews said same. Made the hike really sketchy in places.

Finally rest of tour able to put on crampons. We climbed to the caves. The ice ring was incredible. But the whole experience felt so rushed because we were losing the light. Then onto caves, again no torches, my partner slipped and fell, again most using phone torches. Without the natural light bit rubbish really. Part of the beauty is seeing light through the ice. So bit of a disappointment.

Got back to super jeep for 7pm and not back to Vik till 9pm. 5 hours without water or food by this point. I wish I’d brought water from the coach. We’d been encouraged to leave our stuff on coach.

By the time we got back to Vik around 9pm - the service station was closed and people had to find somewhere to pee in the carpark.

Driver just kept saying we were making memories. Yup you could say that.

Then the whole journey back to Vik the tour bus beeps every 10 seconds. Driver said it was a warning mechanism that they hadn’t figured out how to turn off. I had such a headache by this point.

Back in Rek by 12.30am.
