Manny Vega was the best tour guide we could imagine.
He made this experience special for us. He was watching us and checking on everyone all the time, taking care of our needs, watching over our belongings ( cellphones, towels,…) when we were in pools; he walked with us one by one to order food and drinks and snacks we liked (as we could not read menus or speak to locals). His English is perfect with no accent and this made communication very easy. Before getting to the pools he had earned our trust and he was our friend. The driver was also very polite and careful.
The pools and cave and the river are heavenly beautiful. It is worth the long drive. I had a lot of fun specially with a group of nice and easy going tour mates.

Had a great time, highly recommend! I decided I wanted to take a tour the night before I went. I was able to book it around 10pm for the next morning at 6:30am. There were approximately 9 guests, driver and super cool guide Manny. We stopped along the way for bathroom break, breakfast at a hotel and one more break where we were able to get a free barbacoa taco and shot of mezcal, which was amazing. Manny purchased rare fruit for us to try. Tasty and fun experience. Manny was entertaining and informative of the area along the way. We stopped for scenic photos just before the entrance. We spent approximately 1.5 hours at the pools, then went to the cave area which required a short drive. We were given head lamps to wear into the caves and a special sign with which to take a photo. Then walked to the river area.. We spent a little over an hour in each spot. Afterwards, everyone sat and had a drink and/or something to eat. It was the perfect amount of time. On the way back we stopped again and had more barbacoa tacos. We arrived back to the meeting point around 2100-2130. It was a great way to explore Grutas Tolantango, especially being a solo traveler! Met great people from all over the world as well. Bring cash, towel, change of clothes and something WARM to wear at night!

Keep in mind that this trip will be a time investment. We had to get to the meeting point by 6am and didn't return until 9:30pm. However, the trip itself was great. Our guide, Mani, acted as a fantastic translator to help us navigate a breakfast buffet, lunch options, and a barbacoa restaurant. He also helped us order pulque off-menu.
The Tolantango springs themselves are Instagram heaven. Gorgeous rock formations facing out toward a majestic canyon, that are gushing with manicured waterfalls.
The caves were also a fun thrill that's not too intense. Do avoid wearing sandals in that area: the currents are very fast and will either rip your sandal off your foot or rip it apart. Water shoes are definitely preferable. We did actually manage to find some bats in the caves, which was an unexpected surprise.
This is a great activity for when you want a day to relax. I found Mexico City incredibly chaotic after a couple days. By contrast, this was delightfully relaxing change of pace, made all the more special by our guide.

Highly recommended beautiful place. Our tour guide Manny was very professional. Had a great time guys thank you very much. Tip spend a good amount of money on non-slip water shoes it is very slippery. Second tip book your hotel by the reforma where the pickup area is if not you would have to pay a taxi Plus all the attractions are in the reforma area.
